Jesse,

I have about a 60/40 mix of SO and MAC. All of my MAC's are USA and most are impact. They are as good as SO impacts in my opinion. I would give a slight edge to SO for the chrome ones only because of the quality of the finish, SO looks more refined to me, but they grip and work the same. The biggest problem I have with MAC is dealer support. Our dealer went bankrupt 2 years ago and we have none now. Before that we didn't have a MAC dealer for as long as I can remember. Bottom line: if you have an established dealer and he stops regularly I wouldn't hesitate to buy MAC (USA) sockets.

I haven't worked in a shop since 1986, but before that, I bought Snap-On and Mac and Matco tools off the trucks that came around to the various places I worked. Since then, when a Snap-On tool has broken on me, I have usually been able to spot a truck somewhere to exchange it (usually). The Mac and Matco guys are tougher to find. I have a small bag of broken tools I keep in the trunk of my car, waiting for the day I spot a Mac or Matco dealer to get them exchanged.

Impacts there probably isnt much difference, but chrome Snappy hands down, much better finish and fit, more so on the ratchet side than on the bolt side, they dont seem to sag as much.
And my 18mm deep MAC chrome broke at about 250 lbs of torque when I was torquing a head bolt, put me on my ***, no more MAC sockets for me.

To me the SO last a little longer with heavy use, but my Mac impacts that I have beat on for 20 yrs are still great. May be the chrome ones have changed since I last bought them, but I don't see a Mac guy around here so I stick with SO for the regular service, Good luck
