Socket detents and holes

Hello everyone, nice to meet you all.

I recently picked up a set of 3/8" drive Wera sockets and was wondering why they have both detents (3 of them) and a single hole for the ratchet ball bearing to lock into. All my other brands of sockets only have the detents. I even have some older sockets with nothing for the BB to lock into. :headscrat

Also, does anyone have an opinion of the quality of Twianese Wera tools?

Thanks folks!

Those sockets were made to work with the pin type retainer that requires a hole to release the socket from the square. Very handy to keep the sockets from falling off. Most impact sockets have that pin hole even if the impact tool has a ring retainer instead.

^ this.

If you lock the ball detent into the hole it will not come off easy. I like that feature because its annoying to drop sockets sometimes.
