What should I do to better organize my extensions and my adapter and then universal joints?

I just leave my most common one (3/8") loose. The 1/4" are in the box with all my other 1/4" stuff.

Universal joints and really short extensions go on a socket rail. The bulk of my extensions reside in those drawer organizer trays you get at the Dollar Tree for $1.25 a pop sorted by drive size.
I think I can do that no problem on my other socket rails that are in my socket drawer that have most of my small extensions and adapters and universal joints on

My storage is a combination of everything above.

Ujoints on a socket rail.

1/4” extensions in a custom wooden tray I made. 1/4” Ujoints in an unused organizer slot.

3/8” extensions in an Etsy tray (jury is still out on this one)
DollarTree tray holds 1/2” extensions and overflow 1/2” ratchet

After bringing my box home when I retired my 24” and 36” extensions reside in this niche below my workbench top.

I just thought of a better idea instead I could pull my long extensions and adapters and universal joints and put them in the same drawer as my sockets because some of my extensions and universal joints that are small enough are on some of the socket rails

That custom tray looks really nice. (y)(y)
Its also great to see those flat socket organizers in use. I always liked those.
And I spy some old Craftsman sockets with the embossed ring!

Thanks.

I really liked those organizers when I was working. It was easy to grab a tray and take it over to a bench where I could pull up a stool and work on a valve or other component.

Good eye!
Yes a lot of my 1/4” socket sets are not one exculsive manufacture.
1/4” is too easy to lose down a hoist pit, in a parking lot, or out in the desert.🤬

I use one in a metric general service set. Works great!
And I hear ya on mixed sockets. This set has Matco, Mac, Cornwell, Snap-on, SK and Williams Kobalt.

Jgaz,

Who makes those magnetic red and green socket holders? I remember seeing those in Sears back in the day. Always wondered if the sockets stayed in the tray if dropped.

@captain14 Fedwrehcn beat me to it.

If you dropped one I don’t imagine the sockets would stay put.
However, there were times at work I moved my roller box about a half mile to a remote test area by strapping the box to the mast of the forklift.
The sockets on both the 1/4” organizers and the two 1/2” organizers never moved.

I may have once driven 100 miles with one on the roof of my car without loosing anything.

The magnets in the ones I have (which say 'Snap-On', but were probably made by lisle) are strong, but sockets have enough inertia that they'll bounce out if you drop it the right (wrong?) way.
