While going through some piles of random sockets I ran across these. Two of the sockets have the size cast into them while the large hex has it stamped. The swivel has a10 and the large hex has a17. Any ideas? I'll have more questions later. I did find some very early Blackhawk sockets. At first glance I thought they were impacts.

Those are all Chicago Manufacturing and Distributing pieces, elidas.

EDIT:

They used a 5/8-inch square male drive system. Female ratchet. You should find a spring clip pinned inside the female end of that A10 uni joint to provide tension for the sockets' male drive tangs. The extensions and the ratchet have the same piece. An interesting convention. I have a complete No. 50 Home Garage Kit. All my sockets have the part number and the sizes stamped. I do have a Chicago Manufacturing and Distributing 1-inch hex male drive set as well. Those sockets all had the raised-lettering (forged-in) sizes. The 1-inch hex male drive system came first, so I am postulating they kept that practice when they moved to 5/8-inch square male drive and eventually transitioned from forged-in size markings to stamped. Some photos attached below and link to many more photos and much more info here.

Beautiful!! Thanks. I think I saw that ratchet in my random ratchet pile. My organizational skills are a little "meager" but I'm trying to get something together. So far it's only more scattered. Thanks, Mike

From my set, a partial set that HeelSpur has, a bunch of extras, and inference, I developed a chart of part numbers, posted on my Chicago Mfg and Distributing thread, linked here. It will help you figure out what you have and what set number it went in. I have an extra box (no lid, but one of the hinges and the arm remaining) and a bunch of sockets to fill out your partial set. Your ratchet and uni joint would get stored right in the middle there. It's all yours if you want it. Check you PM. I have a trade in mind.
