Socket identification!

I took the afternoon after school to organize some new handed down sockets after I repainted the bottom of their trays. I came across 2 sockets I thought yall could identify better for me since google didn't have anything. The first is a deep impact 15/16 and all it says is C/R-V Tiawan. The second 2 random sockets look cheap, so I doubt anyone can specific anything about them. They just say "-mm MADE IN USA"
Any help in finding the original manufacture of these is greatly appreciated. I am heading back to the garage tomorrow(My Birthday) to search for the missing MAC and MATCO sockets that go with the 2 sets I was given. Hopefully I can find more of the 2 random sockets as well.

Thank you for the quick response! So I'm guessing the crv sockets were just cheap starts. (The box that all the sockets came from were a diesel mech's lefotvers.) As far as the USA sockets I'm surprised they don't have a name. And the paint/coating on them seems cheap,,they are really sticky and almost feel soft to the touch...If that makes sense.

Possibly. A lot of those big axle sockets are sold by the piece though. I believe K-D also made them with that rubbery coating but they usually say K-D.
It's nice to have those large metric sockets around just in case.

Well I didn't find the missing mac and matco main sockets buy I did find the rest of the cheap set! As well as set of Matco shorts. (Anyone know if these sets come either with a 23 mm or a 9mm? I have 10-22) as well as these swiveling head matcos

The socket in your hand and the ones in the holder? They all have open ends to fit bolts? There have been this style of socket around for years, there should be a special handle to fit that hex drive end. They are usually cheaper sets but some of them are really old. Even then when they were made a long time ago they were cheaper tools.

The drive unit in the bottom of the holder looks like something not in the set I describe. It looks like a 1/4" adapter of some kind.

What you need to do is take pics of the tools out of the holders and then turn the tools over so they are in the same order and take pictures of the bottoms. So far none of this stuff is unusual. Just standard impact sockets. They will work fine for anything you are likely to need them for. Any drivers with these sockets?

Oh, the Matco swivel sockets are not that common. Nice to have for fitting in tight areas. They also cost a bit of money when new. Is there a complete set of those?

Metric socket sets are often missing a few pieces. Big mystery in my book. Different companies will leave different ones out, really.

I will take pics now of those adapters, and the swivel sockets; I think I am missing 1. But the metric sizes are as yoy stated;random as if one is missing. As far as the large sets, I know they are just missing from the set. But hey- all this was FREE!!! Birthday is today so girlfriend let me rummage her ex step dad's garage!! (He was going to marry her mom, randomly ditched, left all his old diesel mech. Tools)

We see what they are now. That is some set made to fit a special handle that has that hex shape in it. They are not for anything I'm familiar with. The one with the hex drive on one end and the square drive on the other is so you can attach standard sockets to it. With out the handle for these it is not much use and even with the handle a regular socket set will be more useful.

The tabs you see inside the female drives are part of the manufacturing process. These units were forged and are probably pretty strong stuff.

Thank you disston, I will head back sooner or later and look for the hex drive. It's driving me nuts that these Mac and Matco sets are missing a few. Kinda been on a socket binge lately.....is there a way to tell if these sets originally didn't come with certain sizes?

You may be able to find sets listed in the Matco catalog and see what is included in a set. Most tool companies have their catalogs on line. Like I said earlier the metric sets will often be missing one or more sizes. The SAE sized sets may start out being every 1/16th size and later be 1/8th size jumps so look for them online. The missing pieces may be there under something.

Why don't you just take it all home and clean them up. May be some interesting stuff. The thing about tools is that it's one of those once you get started you never have enough.

Use something like WD-40 to clean all the tools. It will help get the loose rust off and leave an oily protection behind. Although WD-40 is not the best protection from future rust it will do a good job of cleaning them all up.
