The catch is spending 20 bucks to hold 8 sockets.

meanwhile, I completed my 12 rail socket rack. I've got pics that I'll put up soon, but I'm very happy w/ it. Mainly cause it cost 6 bucks and will hold 192 sockets neatly in my drawer w/ room for more...

Adam
And you can probably mix and match the socket clips to accomodate any size sockets in any order, right?

That's a pretty big catch! I hadn't noticed that really, since I found them on a tool discount website, where the price was about 55% of the 'list prices' shown on the mfg's website.

Still pretty pricey tho...

I use the socket rails with handles. Space is tight and my boxes are stationary so I find it easier to grab a socket rail and take it to the job.

Naw, just the regular lazer etched Craftsman. I upgraded to the large font to compensate for my old-man eyes. I moved the old Craftsman sockets to my "travel box". The only gold there are those two new blue socket holders I picked up from Sears.

dink, A few of the ones on the right do have a slight bronze tinge to them. They're my 12-points, Craftsman. Picked them up a garage sale.

Nathan, I got them at Sears. They have three colors red, black and now blue so you can distinguish betwen standard and metric at a glance. I think they're normally $5 but they always go on sale for $3 and somtimes 2 for $5. They have them in 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2".

Magnetized bases AND socket holes, many sizes, zillions of colors, what's the catch?

I haven't got any yet, but I like how they look. Color code by metric/SAE and/or 6/12 etc. etc. etc.

I use those magnetic ones for both of my 1/4" sets.. i also have their magnetic hanging wrench rack... good stuff..

I have that Torx/Allen tray as well, yeah it's a hansen but the holes don't fit my cheaper allens and Torx head, so I gotta buy better torx and allenhead stuff or get a different tray, I notice he has some torx and allen stuff that wasnt in the tray either, I got mine at a local tool supply house hanging with the otehr racks

I had to ressurect this thread, using the socket rails wasn't working out. They became too bulky & wobbley when I loaded them up with extra sockets of the more popular sizes. Also the handles created a lot of wasted space in the drawer. So I modified a couple of old trays to fit in the drawers and added a handle them to carry to the job since my boxes are stationary. I'll try this for a while and see how I like it, but so far plenty of room for extra stff is working out OK.

Off topic, but I never thought of using the portable toolbox tray inside my rollaway. Great idea!

Thanks for the tip on the Hansen Allen/Torx holder. I've been looking for something like that...

Just finished rereading this thread, and thought I would share something that I tripped over on eBay the other day. These guys make a bunch of different sized socket trays as well as wrench holders all out of anodized aluminum. Cool colors!
Anyhow, here's a link to one of the auctions...just click on the link to their store to check out the rest.

No...I've been debating on whether to go with these or the MUCH cheaper plastic ones from Craftsman. The latter seems like the smarter choice, but those aluminum ones are just so nice looking...

i have the plastic ones from and craftsman, and they takeup alot of room. i had to use 2 drawers in my toolbox to use both of them. they are nice though. the nice thing is that they have slots for both 6 and 12 point sockets and are easy to find the sockets. the bad thing is that there is a lot of unused space. the ones from earlier in this thread seem like they use space better.
