i just got to say, ive been ordereing a lot of gearwrench lately, and the plastic rails that the sockets come on are in my opinion, the best rails ive ever had.

they are sturdy, and stand straight up and look very organized in the top of my tool chest(not on a drawer, but on the stationary part)

i think i wouldnt want anything else, those metal ares are ****, as the metal holder also wear out.

any thoughts or opinions?

I use metal clip based socket rails as part of socket boards every day in the roll cabs.
Both Mac and Snap-On purchased with metal backers.

Been used almost daily and never had a problem.

I've got one bought from Griots back in the 90's that is even nicer than the Snap-Ons.

No OCD ******** socket sizes like Hansens and it can grow as your socket needs do.

For travel bags then it's twist lock socket rails from Sears, Ernst or the trucks.

Not cheap but still expandable and very secure.
Can buy clips in new sizes all day long.

If ya like what ya have then keep on using it, but new is not aways better. It can be, but not always depending upon your needs.

BTW, laying full rails flat insted up upright is a space hog i have found and I don't have vision problems. :)
Thus the metal clip rails on good metal backers.

I've stuck with metal rails for years, but after grabbing a pile of 1/4" GW rails from Cripedistributing, I want to swap all my sockets over to them. Excellent quality.

Some guys like red heads, while others like blondes, still others prefer brunettes. So it goes with many tools and even socket rails. If you're happy with your Gearwrench rails, that's all that matters.
I prefer the magrail TL socket rails from VIM. They're aren't cheap but, the magnetic base sticks to my cart lid and doesn't slide under load or when closing the lid.
My next favorite is also VIM made but sold under many names from craftsman, matco, wright, older sk, and others. The color coded (red SAE blue MM) plastic rails with square sliding pegs. Easily trimmed to fit most drawers and sets, no wasted space or empty pegs to fill with sizes you'll never use.

I only use Gearwrench socket rails. After buying a 3/8 set that came with the rail I really like the quality. I have tried metal rails, hf rails, kobalt, and craftsman. I'm glad I found these. Cripe and tooltopia have the best prices when I was buying.

I have been using the vim magrail customizable with different studs and have sockets end to end with a magnetic base expensive but well worth it imo

I am also a fan of the plastic rails for sockets that I do not have on my Hanson trays. Home Depot has Husky rails that offer different lengths than you can get in the Craftsman rails. They appear to be the same and are not as expensive as Matco. They are around 7.00 per rail with pegs.

I've bought a good many GearWrench sockets myself and I also like the rails. I was going to buy a set of Kobalt socket trays, but I just like the rails better. Don't take up near the room, and can pick up a rail and go.

I have one set of GearWrench sockets that the UPS man brought me and I'll agree, the socket rails are excellent.

Converted all my sets to GW rails... Love em! They hardly flex and still feel very solid with 1/2 deepwells loaded.

I've got mostly all Gearwrench rails. The only problem I've encountred is shallow drawer with them standing up tends to break them when your shutting the drawer (JB weld for repair works though).

I do wish they'd make some longer one's, but they would likely be flimsy under load.

The GW rails are good quality, certainly some of the best out there. Personally, I think they're on par with the plastic ones from Cman or the several other brands they are sold under. That's what I have because they are quality, affordable, and made in the USA!
