Sockets quantity over quality????

Hi All,
I just picked up another toolbox to fill and flip. Normally I seem to have sockets first but on this occasion it was the box that arrived.
I was thinking of filling it with the Craftsman 299 piece set since I have no socket inventory and my estate sale/garage sale time is cut significantly as I am now back to work full time ( good and bad) or possibly with Williams sockets in USA Metric and then slowly filling the SAE with flea finds,etc as time permits. I don't believe the budget would allow me to get 300 Williams sockets to duplicate the mass quantity of the Craftsman set. I would probably shoot for metrics, 1/4",3/8" and 1/2 " drives 6pt deep and shallow.
I have a fair selection of ratchets,pliers,etc from Snap-On Cornwell,and others so I am looking at needing just sockets as a new purchase.
I generally like to keep everything American made and use that as a selling point in my CL ads. I market to anyone with cash, pros ,homeowners,etc....

I have halfer regulars, 3/8" regular depth and 1/4" regular with a few key sizes of deeps I picked up used.

I used to have a lot more sockets but as a homeowner type tool user these 3 tins of deep and metrics are more than what I really need. I can do anything related to my regular repairs easily.

Most of us don't need and will never fully utilize a 300 piece pile of sockets. I say go for better quality, less quantity.

If I was to buy all my 3/8 & 1/4" drive sockets at one time, I would look at the below sets. They cover most anything you will need. As for 1/2 drive, I would buy what you think you would be working on first. For me, it was SAE shallow. I have SAE deep, but almost never use them. It took many years and a job change before buying a 1/2 drive metric set. After another job change, I use those metrics about once a year.

You should be able to do two out of that set, this one with the 6 pt and the next with the 12 pt.

If you buy the latest version of Craftsman sockets, you'll have to buy Craftsman extensions to go with them. They don't accept other brands of extensions anymore.

Not as impressive as 299 sockets to your Craigslist buyers, but perhaps just as useful.

Which is why I would go dewalt. All 6pt extensions ratchets extensions u joints ect. All there. Under $200.

I know probably doesn't demand the same price as craftsman but still.

I'm noting that companies change stupid stuff that doesn't need to be changed in order to sell a whole bunch of other accessories that work, sorry if the reference wasn't tool related enough for you

Quality when it comes to things that could injury me. I don't cheap out on sockets. I could care less about lifetime warranties. They don't pay for my hospital care when I break my hand/knuckles or slice my hand open when a socket breaks.

I'll buy a chinese socket holder though:D

It needed to be changed. It was outdated. God forbid they make something better. It pissed off at first too. I felt the same way as you. Then my wife and I charged our phones together from zero to 100%. Hers a 5 with the new charger mine a 4. Hers was fully charged in less than half the time of mine. Apple had used the old design since gen 1 iPods. It was time to upgrade.

I just ordered the Craftsman 299 piece set. I was able to use $10 is surprise points along with my discover Card which will give me 10% back in cash rewards.
My order was $285 after tax with free shipping,with Discover Card cashback = $28.50 off for a total cost of $256.50,could not pass it up.

I don't normally buy retail. I usually hunt for bargains at estate sales,flea markets and such. I just seems like full toolboxes sell well for me versus single tools . There probably will not be any more tools in this box purchased at retail pricing except socket trays from HF and I will use coupons.

Huh? This is not true at all, just bought some deep wells and allen heads and they work fine with all my extensions.

I'm glad they worked out for you. They don't work with my Snap-on or Proto extensions. The female square drive is too small. I took the sockets back to Sears and got my money.

OP, you buy toolboxes and fill them with tools and them sell them for a profit? How often do you do this?

It just doesn't seem profitable.

yes .Usually 2-3 a year. I think there may be some mis-understandings here. I do not buy much of anything at retail pricing. Most everything I get is CL deals,estate sale deals,flea finds etc.Most everything is used.There are some new tools in toolboxes I sell when a deal comes along like the 12v impact driver & cordless drill combo I picked up for $59. I'll put that in a toolbox and sell the contents for a tidy profit.My last flip I had about $2300 into the boxes and shop accessories and sold for $4200.

I currently have a table saw I purchased on Craigslist a couple weeks ago for $200 and have an appointment/good feeling that it will sell tomorrow morning at or near my asking price of $700. All I did was buy it,pick it up and relist it.

i had a good run of buying and selling tools and boxes myself. i kept upgrading boxes, getting new ones with tools i didnt have and pitching the junk and stuff i already had multiples and my old box. i did this over a year or so time and now im loaded LOL. im still looking for another flip. buying new cost to much and there is no thrill.

i started with a upper and lower cman 26" friction slide. i now have a matco 57" bottom and a 44" mac top, and the top has the upper hutch. not to mention i ended up trading a upper and lower stainless 41" box(unsure of brand) for 2 honda 2000 quiet generators. :)
feels good to get a good deal, pass on a deal and make money while doing it.
