Aren't Facom just made in Taiwan now?

If OP is using tools for a living, Snap on or Williams/Bluepoint is the way to go, never a problem getting a replacement.

I like the blue point standard length sockets, if you aren't picky about COO. I literally just got a set yesterday and have used them already. They also have a nice finish if that's a big deal to you (doesn't matter to me) and don't cost very much. You just have to order each socket individually as I wasn't able to find them in an actual set.

This is 6-24mm 3/8" drive.

Facom is made all over the place now.... including the UK, Italy, France and Taiwan

I own some French made Facom sockets and some Taiwan made Facom sockets and
there is absolutely no difference in the quality between them... In actual fact if I was pushed,
I would say the Taiwan made sockets were ever so slightly better finished... in parctical terms
of course they are the same.

I also have a few Italian made Facom ratchets and three Taiwan made Facom ratchets...
and it's the same deal with those.... All top quality.

I use Bluepoints everyday, if I break one - I've only ever broken the torx bits and an adapter, they just replace them, use them with impacts all the time, good solid tools.

You can get SO in UK. There is at least one CAT plant there, SO makes their tools. There's also at least 100 JCB plants there. Industrial tools can be had, just that you might not know where to look for them. All this means Williams are an option you just might not be asking the right question or at the right place.

I would pursue someone who sells Williams unless you've already decided to spend the SO money. Their deeps have shallow broaching to set a nut. i really like the finish on my Williams, by far my favourite sockets now.

I've never had any problems getting Snap-On or Bluepoint replaced, that's the whole point of it is it not? It might be expensive but if it breaks you get another one.

maybe over the pond is different... but over here most of the snap-on dealers ****, and not in a good way...... unless your spending a lot of $$$$ there is no replacing tools when your on the road working, in other word in Pa one week, in Cali the next week truck dealer will not even talk to you

going direct to snap-on is not even a option

I emailed snap on to warranty a T8 torx bit last week, and had the replacement 2-3 business days later.

Same story goes for every other time I've needed to warranty something.

Buying Grainger stocked brands may be an option. Graingers are fairly common around good sized plants. I haven't tried replacement through Grainger, but through their competitor MSC the couple reps I dealt with in my experience would do replacement of hand tools.

your flying in on break down, the whole snap-on thing is paying a premium for service ...... with the service you get from snap-on dealers you might as well buy harbor freight, and chuck it after your done... for the most part have gear wrench, craftsman, some proto and ....yes harbor freight about 1/2 of there tool are ****, some are unbelievable for the price. two that come to mind are the 5 piece ball pien, ( bought them in a pinch on one job still going strong 4 years later.... and there neon screw driver set the orange and green one's use them on rails and plate lock-ups used the one screw driver for 60 or 70 lock ups 32 screws each and there still going strong,

Well on an unscheduled outage the cost of a new screw driver or ratchet is minimal if it is holding up the job, so tell your company to pony up.

Most of the construction workers I know who travel with tools throw the broken ones in their box until they get home for replacement or toss them in the scrap pile. I have never seen a road ***** have the luxury of onsite tool truck support. ( I do fully understand and don't disagree with your point about Snap-On though. Their service is lack luster on many occasions.)

There is not much in it.... They are just as smooth as each other, but I do
prefer the Pear Head ratchet as you can see at a glance if it's set to loosen
or tighten and being able to flick a lever to change direction is easier too.

I suppose also, the pear head is a little bit thinner so has the potential to
get into a tighter gap... but only by a couple of mm.

Cheers.

Ok, thanks :)

I was asking because almost every Facom ratchet I see here on the garagejournal seems to be round head and I was wondering if they were something special or so, because I would always have bought the pear head instead of a round head. I like the looks of it as well :)

The pearhead ratchets are sealed against dust and require no maintenance...no repair kits are available for these ratchets. The standard ratchets do require maintenance (simple cleaning and lubrication) or they will start to slip or seize up as the internal grease hardens. The pearhead ratchets are also 15-20% lighter and have the thumb lever to reverse direction. Facom's current maintenance free ratchets are ......

3/8" Drive........JL.161

My Facom rotating ratchets are the best tools I own. I am surprised more people don't rave about them.

Are there instructions posted anywhere on how to clean and lube them?
