Sodium metasilicate parts washer solvent?

Just bought one of the 20 gal HF parts washers. Instructions say to use a water based solvent. I had always used mineral spirits in my old 5 gal one and that seemed to work pretty well. But, given that mineral spirits is up to about $14 a gal at Lowe's and the washer recommendations; I'm not clear on what I want to use.
I picked up a gallon of degreaser while at HF. It's supposed to be mixed 26:1 in water. It contains sodium metasilicate that they say don't get on your skin and also not to use on aluminum, alloy, zinc and copper. I know there was a thread on this recently and the recommendations were all over the place. I guess my question is this sodium metasilicate based stuff something relatively safe and something I'd want to use in a parts washer. It won't take all the paint off of the washer like one of the gus on the other thread said his did, will it.
I'd appreciate any guidance.
Thanks,
