Soffit light question. (Wireless control)

Hello Folks,

I want to add some LED soffit lights that I can control from like a key fob.

Here is why.

I come home all hours of the night from work or the shop. I would like to hit a button in my truck that turns on a coupe of timed soffit lights above my door. (The work truck sets outside.)

Was thinking of just using a 12 VDC remote for a car. Let it trip a 12VDC ice cube relay to control the 110VAC. (We have a bunch of these, 24VDC at work running robotics. So I'm not worried about them.)

Do any of you know if there is anything like this on the market now?

Also, I don't want the following.

Motion lights: The rabbits trip them.

Yard light on half the night: Bothers the neighbor.

Goto amazon and type in remote controlled lights. Lots of options. If not, hard wire and get a remote on/off switch from a wood working store.

You can get a lamp module controllable by one of the HomeLink buttons in your truck, or on a standard garage door remote. Plug the lamp module into a GFCI outlet, then plug the LED string into the lamp module.

Look into home automation using Z-Wave protocol. After that you don't even necessarily need a remote, just time it when it's dark and it turns on automatically.

Do you have a smart phone and WIFI in your house? If so, then you can install any type of soffit lighting you want, and connect the lights to a WIFI enabled switch in your garage or house.

With the lights connected thru a WIFI enabled switch you would have the ability to turn the lights on or off via the switch or via your smart phone from your truck.

Most of the WIFI switches do not require a "HUB" like the Z-Wave stuff, and they just use your homes existing WIFI to connect them up. I have several WIFI switches and receptacles in my house, and we can turn things on and off from anywhere at any time.

The WIFI items are another option that is inexpensive and easy to set up and use.

The thing about soffit lights is that they shine down not out, so the neighbors should be not be bothered unless they are <10' away. After I did mine, all my neighbors loved it and wanted to do it too. 3 of the 6 had theirs done within the following few months.

Now I do have a neighbor behind me that has a motion light that broadcast light and it's bright at #%@$#&# but it's because they are PAR13 LEDs that shoot light out over his backyard.

I bough a GE Bluetooth switch that operates from an app on my iPhone. You can turn off/on from your phone, but have to be within 15'-20' of the switch and it's likely not an option. I set mine dusk to dawn and it keeps up with daylight savings - cutting on and off automatically.
