We had a very bad storm here last week , messed up a bunch of things at my home ..

One thing yet to be addressed is , it knocked out 1 of my soffit recessed lights , there is a piece of spring , shaped like a V somewhat , that somehow holds the can in the soffit ..

I'm not sure how it goes back together .. looked on youtube , but can't find this type .. sparrows wasted no time trying to build a nest

I'll try to explain...

A typical recessed/can light is held in place with two of the v-springs you described, one on either side. The springs fit into metal tangs (which form slots for the spring legs to ride on) on brackets attached to the inner structure of the fixture. The lateral tension applied by the springs to the metal tangs keep the fixture flush in place against the ceiling and also allow for the fixture to be pulled down for service. I would suggest that perhaps one of the v-springs somehow has come out of the slot, or the bracket has become detached from the fixture.

Hope this helps...good luck!

Yeah , I think the hole may have been cut slightly too large , its always fit a bit odd .. but, now its dropped down about 2 inches and that spring is laying on the ground ..I don't know how much I need to pull it to take it all the way out and see if I can get it back ..and

Ps ..

I hate being on ladders , its 12 foot off the ground .. yuk

its the 2nd one he talks about but, does not show how it goes together

Okay, my description was a reference to the first style of light in the YouTube video.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen one like the second one he is describing.
