Soffit Lighting - Eve install

Looking for some insight on what lights I should be installing, we are going to be doing a patio off the south side of our garage (24x24) and wanted to put some soffit lighting in the eves (2 foot overhang) can anyone suggest which lights to purchase that are proper for that spot?

I was thinking 4, evenly spaced. Do people just do 6 inch cans?

So there is a patio, 24ft long- X feet wide. With a soffit that projects out the first 2 feet. Lights in that. Yes?

What is it that you are trying to achieve?

Wall wash? Accent? Area lighting???

After reading what I posted, I clearly did not give enough info! Sorry!

So, garage is 24x24, off the south side of the garage we are doing a patio the full length of the garage and basically wanting the lights to be useable area lights, to light up the patio area thats under the soffit for that two feet area, I invision having the grill on one end just past the garage so would be nice for that to be lit up maybe a few chairs, etc.

4 inch cans should work but 6 in cans with dime could be more versatile.

Yea, 6" can lights, I would do an LED retrofit.
