Soffit Lighting Questions...

So I was thinking about adding some soffit lights to my entry way, which runs up against the garage wall. I can access the attic space above the garage easy and I would have no issues running wire from the light above the front door to tie into the soffit light(s). I'm really only thinking about doing one or two. If all goes well then I might consider adding more at a later date.

My question is how do they mount? My soffits are all perforated and thin metal. Do the lights need a 2x4 to mount to or are they light enough to be supported by the soffit panel itself?

I did mine during construction, mine are J box mount LED's. The J box mounts to a 2x4, hard to do once its closed up though.

Wafer lights. Just snap into the soffit from below.
You'll need to cut a hole from below the soffit and run a wire to it. The driver slips up into the soffit space and then the light just snaps in.
Good luck,

Those are nice.

I have also seen some round versions similar to the ones you have shown. They install using a simple hole saw. Because they are light weight like the ones you have shown, they just snap into place after you run the wires to them.

I am thinking of getting lights like this for my house so I can put one in the soffits over each garage door and one over my breezeway door to add more light and for a nice look.

Here's the pics... I'm thinking of adding one or two (or three) lights along the right side to illuminate the walk way up to the front door. Possibly adding one on the left side for symmetry / more light... dunno...

I think those wafer lights will be the way to go. Otherwise I'll have to pull the gutter, the trim / flashing (whatever that's called behind the gutter), then can finally remove the soffit pieces.

WAC makes an LED light tape that can be mounted in an aluminum track. I’ve installed miles of it (it seems like it anyways!), it puts uff great light and it’s easy to install....
