When the guys built the addition to my garage I went with taller walls than the existing garage. They left the eve from the existing garage on and now its in the new space. After looking at XcYZ's garage I thought that the soffit storage idea could work to hide the existing eve and serve a purpose. Here is a pic of what I have.
I framed in the top with 2x4's to give me an area to run my electrical from the panel in the existing garage to the new garage. What I would like to do is in the middle location build a display area with some glass shelves and plexiglass sliding doors. I also plan to put either track lighting or recessed lighting in the top . As for the bottom area I plan to use the recessed lighting. Now the sides I would like them to be enclosed and I'm thinking of using a sliding door there that would slide into the displayed area for access.
I'm looking for some ideas on how to do this. I guess I'm getting a little hung up on the framing. I had started with 2x4's, now I'm thinking I should have used 2x6's. I don't plan to put anything heavy up there, but I know weight adds up quick. Also on the framing I need to be able to insulate the upper osb area. I also need to add another 2x4 for my drywall on the ceiling to meet with the drywall on the wall. Thanks for any advice. Russ
