Went out to the shop this morning to clean up and lost my way.
Cut and fit some yellow cedar soft jaws on a Columbian 3-CD and 9-RD.
Also leathered a Reed 224, with a old welding glove.
The shop is still a wreck.

Always a big fan of your work!

If you cut a step in those wood vise jaws, you'll find them ever so more useful in gripping things. I use mine for lots of other things other than woodworking.

Nice job, I LOL at the getting lost in a side project! Can't tell you the number of times I have attempted to do a thorough cleaning and never got to it because of a spin off project.

Royce,

The cedar is pretty soft, no?

I've got some generic Chinese crate wood soft jaws in my woodworker's vise. I'm planning to replace them with Brazilian cherry flooring scraps - the soft wood jaws just collapse when I'm squeezing anything that's smaller than the vise itself.

Yes, probably too soft.
I looked around the shop and it was all I could come up with at the time.
I have some white oak out there somewhere in the frozen abyss, that I was to lazy to shovel out.
Even though these are not the best material, it got me out of cleaning the shop!!!
Maybe in the spring, I can cut some fresh ones, with a rabbet like Lillredex's.
Thanks
Royce
