I'm the electrical & driveability guy in the shop and I am always looking for some proven newish tools to identify the source of the problems and complete the repairs.

I had an older conductance- type battery analyzer, the Solar BA7 and it worked great until I torn a wire loose in the tool; seemed a little fragile in the bill quality also.

I was at my local NAPA store earlier last week and I bought the newish model , Solar BA9 battery and system analyzer on sale for $79.99; list price $143/ I liked the LCD display and additional features, including the ability to test AGM. This feature is typically only found on very expensive battery testers. You can also find these on Amazon for about the same price and the tool trucks rebadge them and sell for more $ss.

It also has the ability to measure ripple, state of charge, state of health, and internal resistance.

I used it a couple of times and so far it has meet my needs. I see this replacing my DMM for battery/charging diag. I still use (at times) the load tester type battery tester.

Build quality and size is great and it appears it will survive a rough shop environment. The leads and clamps are greatly improved over the BA7 model that I had.

So, if you're in the maket for a conductance type battery tester I recommend the Solar BA9. It's made by Clore Automotive, a big name player in battery charging systems.

Here's a few pics of it connected to a Jeep Cherokee I'm working on tonight as a side job to replace the harmonic balancer. This LCD display is nice and clear.

Tarheelgarage, does your Solar BA9 reading will give you different numbers, if you use it to test the same battery, multiple times?
