Yes I put one in while I was still building my shop, at the time it did not have any electricity. It dropped the temp in the peek by a lot made working in the upstairs bearable in the summer. This was 5 years ago and it is still working and is nice and quiet. I put a put a real one in the other end of the shop and it moves a whole lot more air and has a adjustable thermal and is cheaper. If you like the idea of solar go for it, if you want to move a lot of air get the 120. I am happy with both the solar one fit my needs at the time if i were to replace it I would get the 120V. Mine was a cheep one off ebay.

I'm planning a 120v fan on the rear gable end to move air thru the shop. Ths solar will be for the very small attic space only

I put some of the surface mount ones from Lowes about 6 years ago and they work great. I think they were less money. I also recommend you have remote panels such as the ones you show. that way you can mount then where ever they work best.

I have a surface mount on my house. I need gable end mount with a long cord so I can put the fan at the back and the panel at the front
