Does anyone have experience with solar powered security lights. I see the big box stores carry some but I am sure they are pretty crappy quality. Is there someone out there making a more robust version?

I bought a dual lamp LED motion detection light from HD for about $110. They don't have the same unit anymore, but it was by Nature Power. One of my best purchases ever. I installed it INSIDE my large shed that has no power. Rigged it so that when I open the door it turns on. A surprising amount of light. Not really enough to work in my 20' x 20' space, but enough to find stuff at night. It has a small switch that you can turn it on manually without relying on the motion detection. The solar collector is mounted on the shed rake board at the peak and gets full sun. The wiring was long enough to run from the peak (about 15') to place I wanted it.
Works every time, unlike the absolute junk solar powered post cap lights from HD that worked ONCE!

Costco brand is pretty good the older version of the sunforce I had is going strong 2 years...
Had no luck with HD or LOWES way back then 2010 haven't bought another motion sensing fixture from them since... I think some guy was complaining about them just yesterday on newer ones.....

HF now sells a dual head solar security motion sensing light. Its a big improvement over the 60led ones formerly sold.

Was up at my brothers hunting camp over the weekend. He has 2 Harbor Freight Solar charged Motion sensing LED lights that have been up for over a year! The lens is about 3 inches square which makes for pretty bright lights! I think he said they were $14 each?

OP I noticed you are in Canada. I have solar powered lawn/sidewalk lights in Chicago and find that in winter months the lights do not stay lit very long. The short sunlight time periods don't charge the batteries enough to keep the light lit for more than a couple hours. By 7 pm in December the lights are out.
These are lawn lights with a couple AA batteries and small solar panel. Perhaps your security lights have larger batteries and larger panels.
