The City of Detroit went LED for residential street lights (non solar) a few years back. The shad/reflector severely limited the "pool" of light to a much smaller area than the old style incandescent lights. Something to watch out for.

The new lights are night sky compliant, not so much "light pollution".

Get the one with a removable battery that is easy to remove and can be replaced "relatively" inexpensively.

Really depends on what you want. Low current LEDs - you don't need a lot of power, battery, or panel for recharge... If you want something that puts out big light, everything gets more expensive.

And note, even in Texas, we can get 3-4 days consecutive of overcast sky... The only way I've been able to handle that is with big deep cycle batteries and pretty good sized panels.

Commercial LED streetlights can be designed to provide a broader pool of light, so maybe the ones in Detroit weren't properly engineered for the application.

I assume the original poster is talking about a yard light for personal use.
