I like the idea of solar powered but I am not sure how reliable they are?

Any thoughts and if so any specific product suggestions?

Thanks!

only as reliable as your fixtures, batteries, panels and the availability of sunlight, long enough to recharge the battery. One or several? Individual or multiples powered from the same source. Not as easy to string 12/24vDC to each light and still get the power you need. Mounts for panels can be pricey and still need to be high enough to not be vandalized.

You need at least 3 or 4 days capacity in your batteries to handle the shady/cloudy days. Resource is out there to calculate based on your location and sun days.

I've yet to see a solar powered outdoor light fixture that was anything more than cheap junk. If you're calling for a "security light", then I'd use a hard wired fixture with a battery back up in case the power goes out.
Good luck,
CD

You know living in Ohio with a fair number of grey overcast days might not be a good idea for solar anything. I am going wired.

Thanks guys!
