DRILL PRESS HAS BEEN SOLD
This is a recently completed rebuild – it is a WT 20” floor model drill press from the early 1940’s. It has been completely disassembled, cleaned and painted. The drive system is a 3/4 HP 3 Phase 1140 RPM 230 volt motor. The motor is powered by a VFD that requires 220 single phase input. It has 5 step pulleys that generate speeds of Published (measured by optical tachometer) – 260 (273), 520 (522), 800 (815), 1200 (1194) and 1700 (1750). With the VFD you will have theoretically infinite speed ranges but from a practical sense there is a limit. The original start/stop switch and an added potentiometer have been wired through the VFD. The potentiometer is used to vary motor frequency and therefore motor speed. All motor and spindle pulley bearings are new and all belts are new.
This machine has the desired full cast iron belt cover. It also has a power down feed that provides 4 speeds for lowering the quill automatically and the auto release for the down feed that is part of the depth stop.
The upper spindle bearing is the original – it was in good condition – the lower spindle bearing is new. The machine has 6” of quill travel. The spindle nose is an MT 2 taper with .0035” run out on the spindle nose. A Jacobs 6A chuck with a MT2 arbor is included but not shown in the pictures – still awaiting arrival.
The table has an arc of shame but all holes have been filled – they are not invisible but will not collect debris. There is a table raising mechanism included as well as table, quill and head locks. The base and column are both in good condition. The power cord and plug are also new.
I am looking to get $1195 for the drill press – you may think I am proud of this machine – and I am – it is an industrial level machine - but the asking price is more of a reflection of how much has been invested to bring it back to life. I am willing to entertain offers but, as I said, there is a lot invested so I only have limited, if any. Room on price. To keep things in perspective – take a look at the current prices of imported 20” machines before you walk away. Feel free to ask for more information or pictures. Thanks for looking.
