I'm not a soldering wiz and now my cheapo RadioShack soldering iron just failed while trying to do a desolder. I've seen threads discussing soldering stations. I'm thinking of an adjustable temperature bench top unit. I seem to do all types of soldering, delicate, moderate (stereo install, wire repair) and heavy duty(10 ga and board mounted connectors). What does the forum use and where'd you get it?,

Weller WES51 or the Hakko equivalent.

Amazon had decent prices at the time, but shop around

weller WTCPT on my desk, Hako makes an equivalent one for a few dollars less. I have an old Weller gun style for heavy duty or coax connectors.

eBay has tons of rework stations and such, overkill for the home bench, but really nice features and usually at pennies on the dollar.

Mine's a Weller WX1010 station with both a 120watt and 200watt iron. Bought it from Zoro during a flash sale. Once you turn it on it'll be at 850 degrees in about 7-8 seconds.

Definitely overkill unless you solder frequently.
