Solid Surface Counter Top

A neighbor is remodeling their kitchen. He wanted someone to take out the old cabinets. Unfortunately he decided to pull out the cabs before our agreed time to do so. Somehow he broke a section.

The counter tops are LG Hi-Macs solid surface material. My question is what is involved to re-join solid surface material. I looked online and found some info, but I feel real time information from you guys will take me further in conjunction with the manufacturers web site info.

I'm hoping to salvage the counter top w/sink for the shop kitchen.

Manufactures instructions are pretty clear to me. I've seamed Corian brand many times, same process.

Agreed. But remember, I have never had experience with solid surface material. With that on the table, are there any tips/tricks you could recommend that would make a repair stand above in quality?

I always find the better way during and after an excercise.... not necessarily before.

I've been searching a 'How To' while you were posting, nothing exact, but here ya' go.

Something like this, but you may not have access to a vac. mach. and be using all hot glued blocks and clamps.

test fit and make sure both sides match LEVEL, adjust as necessary to reduce matching by sanding

Yes sir, that's the thing I was looking for. It makes me a lot more comfortable seeing a basic exercise before hand. Thanks for the link, and the insight!

clean the seems with denatured alcohol
Buy the correct adhesive to glue it together, there will be a matching adhesive for each color.
machines easily with sharp carbide router bits
Typically use a small laminate trimmer(router) with skates on it to machine the glue line flush
The "skates" are blocks of wood or plexiglass applied to the bottom of the router base, opposing each other so that router can skate along the glue line with out the router base riding on the glue line.
The router bit then can be brought down to the exact height of the surface to machine the adhesive flush with the surface.

I use Integra adhesives for my solid surface work. It comes color matched and is easily sanded and buffed to make invisible seams.
