Should I buy one? Money isn't an issue. I want to get in on the ever changing world of computers which is basically what all cars are these days.

I come from the old school and can diagnose 9 out 10 problems within a few minutes and don't even have to pull out my code reader.

I have a compression tester, cyl leak tester, single graphing code scanner, vacuum pump, voltmeter/multimeter, and stethoscope when i need them.

Without having an online database it is hard reading graphs sometimes not knowing what the acceptable ranges are. Also trouble shooting things such as the BCM and ignition can be a little tricky without a nice computer.

I know the Solus can give me real time data, possible solutions for each MIL and the ability to control things like the BCM and view indiviual cylinders, etc.

Should I also look into a Vantage Pro or just look into a Modis for all the Solus plus component testing?

well if money is no object then why not check out a verus? we use one at our shop and ive fallen in love with it but at the same time i dont have to pay for it :) but you have basically a solus,4 channel lab scope, and note book computer right there at the fender. plus you can get the pass thru pro for it to flash computers also. its a good investment if you do alot of diagnostic work and can get it to pay for itself

I just traded a Solus Pro for a Modis. I wanted a 4 channel scope and I believe the Verus is just a 2 channel. I also got a better deal on the Modis. Combining the 2 (Vantage and Solus Pro) in one package seems to help a lot at comparing the front door with the lab scope and the back door numbers with the scanner.

I can't wait for 10.2 to see what type of expanded capabilities I will have concerning my hybrid Camry. Maybe I can teach it to stay home at night and not run away. I hate chaining it up in the garage when I come home as it gets a little surly by the next morning...

Prices have dropped on all Snap on testers. I paid 8400 For my Modus 4 years ago and I think you can get veris for less now. I don know if it is true but I was told 2 weeks ago that they were going to stop supporting the Solus in a year or so. If you are not working on the newest car then Solus should be fine. I have a Vantage a Modis, A MT 2500 Ford VCM and Matco Determinator. I use them all at least in a weeks time. There is no perfect scan tool that does every thing.

please stop that rumor now. it is the BRICK MT2500. the one that was around for 20 years unlike anything OTC has ever made.
Go back and edit that out so all the snap on dealers are not bombarded with stupid questions tomorrow.
I bet that since it was put on here I will get asked why i lied to my customers about their new scanner. please edit your response

I too am thinking of purchasing a Modis but my only hold back is that i don't know how or fully know how to use it to its full capabilities. Does anyone have a book or tell me where i need to go to educate myself on all its abilities. Such as how to use a full scope and when to go about using it.
If someone can be so kind in giving lessons on diagnostics and the equipment. I would fully appreciate it.

I own a Solus Pro and can't say enough good things about it. The only real downside to it is the cost of updates, but what can you do? The shop has a modis and I use it when I need the lab scope. The way you can set it up and use all 4 channels is awsome. For instance looking at crank, cam, an injector, and a coil signal back to back can be helpful. I had that exact scenario a few weeks ago on a toyota that was flooding itself out and found that the pcm was pulsing the injectors four times for everytime that it would fire the corrisponding coil. Very odd problem, and it was great to be able to prove what was going on instead of just "guessing" it needed a computer. That being said the Solus tells me what I need 99% of the time and it's much smaller and more convienient. I would recommend either if you can get a good price!

It is not true. Snap-on plans to continue supporting the Solus and the Solus Pro for the forseeable future.

Who told you that nonsense? A competing tool dealer?

Try this link for the online training for all three tools. They are a little out of date as far as capabilities go but the videos will give you a good idea of what they can do. Be prepared to sit and watch for a few hours....
