Thought I'd pass this along.
I recently installed 2 $15 lowes.com fans in my garage to move some air around. They are the cheapo 42" kind.
Both of them were making rotational noise, one more than the other, and were annoying as heck. I figured it was a bearing problem and came with the price I paid.
I decided to climb up and check things out, and discovered that both noises were just wires rubbing on the housing. The really loud one was from my 12/2 neutral and it was making strong contact (thick wire). The one that wasn't as noisy was just the blue light kit wire. Once I stuffed the wires up farther into the assembly they are totally silent, and man, what a joy to NOT hear anything but air moving when they are on.
