My grandfather was a machinist who retired in the early 1970s and passed away in the mid 1990s. I didn't have much interest in his profession back then, but that has changed since I retired. A couple of days ago at my dad's house, I ran across the Starrett tool in the photos below. It is clearly stamped around the head with Starrett's basic information, but I did not see a product number. It's about the size of a center punch, but it appears to be some kind of telescoping device. The part that I think should telescope seems to be seized. I am confident someone here can identify this tool. TIA!
