Hey Everyone,

I just picked up a Graymills hot parts washer and need to pick a solvent to use. Budget is a primary concern as it's a big washer and it looks like I'll need 30-35 gallons of solvent bare minimum to reach the pump pick up and to be able to submerge parts and use the spray bar.

Kerosene?

I would use odorless kerosene. Since hearing about it I've started cleaning all sorts of greasy parts with kerosene. It works well, doesn't stink much, and has low flammability compared to other mineral solvents.

I've been using kerosene for 30+ years cleaning greasy parts and it works really well. It's a nice balance of cleaning vs smell vs removing skin and brain cells :ROFLMAO: . I'm not familiar with your parts washer, so just make sure it's compatible with kerosene. Keep in mind that you may need a final spray rinse on the part with something like lacquer thinner for a final clean depending on your goal.

Graymills chemicals are excellent in their washers. Five gallons of their concentrate, like Aquatene, will make all the cleaner you need for your washer.

I would not run any hydrocarbon based solvent in a heated washer. Graymills and any other parts washer i'm familiar with will only allow aqueous cleaners in their heated washers.
