I have a Metal building with concrete floors that I use a a storage building. Built with the typical clear span truss construction. I also use it as a garage to work on just about anything that needs it. In the winter being a trapper I use it for a fur shed but here's the problem......no insulation or heat. Sure is hard to get my fur do dry properly in freezing conditions. This building is 36X48. I would like to divide it so I can heat a section in the cold months. 3 sides will be using the current exterior walls. 1 side will be a newly constructed dividing wall. On the old metal (current) walls I have acquired some 7/16'' particle board with 1" aluminum backed foam I realize this is not enough insulation so I will be adding more in between the metal and the above material. Should the particle board side be facing out or the aluminum side be facing out. Out being toward the workshop area. Thanks

To really insulate it well you may want to consider framing out the opening between the post then adding insulation batting. Another option is to use blanket insulation but you will still need something to nail the particle board to between the post. 1" styrofoam will not provide much r value as you already stated.

I plan on doing the framing to nail it all to. Then fill all spaces in between the original metal and the particle board with the foam and aluminum with some type of insulation as you mention. My main question is which side of the board should be facing out toward the workshop/heated area. The particle board side or the aluminum side.

Generally the AL side faces the weather side. So, PB inside. The AL is there to reflect heat. Now maybe you want to reverse the process.

You sure it's PB and not OSB? PB does not like moisture.

OSB is Oriented Strand Board, it's made up of larger ships of wood, PB is particle board and is a little larger than sawdust

also MDF, medium density fiberboard, is made up if a very fine particle almost like paper pulp
