I hope this isn't considered inappropriate, but I could use some opinions on selling tools. I'm not trying to get in the business, I could just use a few extra dollars for a bunch of stuff I have laying around.

I have a love/hate relationship with ebay, mostly hate. It's too expensive for a lot of the things I have. So I figured I'd give the classifieds a shot. I'm thinking with over 500 views and not a single PM I'm doing something wrong. The wrong stuff, the wrong prices, I don't really know. Any help figuring it out would be great so I'm not wasting everyone's time.

It's all about who see it and who needs it. I see you have almost all old and used SAE tools and not USA made either. Most members will shy away from those quickly. Supply/demand applies here just like flea markets and eBay.

I've bought and sold on the classifieds. It doesn't get as much exposure as on eBay. You'll get a lot more views on eBay, but you also pay a fee for that exposure.

I'd like to see the classifieds reopened to comments, it would make the buying/selling more interactive.

I often see sellers on eBay with one listing, but a drop down menu with numerous size/brands of ratchets, for example, all differently priced. Do sellers save money that way or is it just easier than creating multiple auctions?

Price is king I think everywhere. I posted a mint Honda 4.5 hp small engine for $60. They're $220 new, granted it is not new but it's mint, runs perfect, 1/4th the price of new. And I put a new NGR plug into it, new filter, new CastrolGTX oil.

No one bid on it. I put in the ebay ad "local pickup only". I love local buying on ebay. Just filter it down to 50 miles radius or whatever and you can find some bargains. Because I think hardly no one does local buying on ebay (or on GJ classifieds), and s/h would be cost prohibitive on large, bulky items.

eBay has really streamlined their listing page. If you haven't used it lately. Try it -- it's awesome. Not clunky anymore, and it takes like 1/4th the time to list.

I prefer the eBay mobile app to post things now. Take pictures with your phone and upload them instantly. As long as you are ok with the 10% listing cost, it's pretty painless.

I agree with this 100%. The classifieds used to be much more active when they were open for comments. I get that this isn't a commercial site, but I would think a better experience for the members would be a priority.

Ebay is just not worth the hassle for $10 and $20 items. The actual cost is too high. And that's even if all your transaction go smoothly. Trust me I know, I do it every day.
