Some clarity on smoke detector interconnect

Just trying to make sure I understand the circuit correctly.

I am talking about 3 wire 120vac smoke alarms and strobes.

What I think happens is that all the orange wires (3rd wire, probably hooked to red in a 14-3 NMB wire) are connected to each other just like hot and neutral.

So if any alarm goes off, there's some type of internal relay contact which then connects black and orange/red so now the orange/red has 120vac potential to neutral.

All other alarms & strobes, now sensing the 120vac presence on orange/red, but not being actually "tripped" will also alarm.

So to turn off the now-sounding alarm group, the unit which originally sensed the problem and closed its contact has to revert to the original normally open state and then all sounds stop.

Thanks for clarifying or correcting me, just want to make sure I understand the wiring when researching to purchase units.

If you are planning on attaching anything other than another detector, google than and end over on MikeHolt. you do not want that sense line trying to drive a relay or an input to an alarm system.... just FYI

Thanks BRK has a "powered relay" in their lineup which can be used to sense the 9v and drive an output without pulling down the signal.
