1. I've read you should use 1 3/8 or 1 5/8 screws when hanging 5/8 drywall on wood studs. What do you guys recommend? My only experience was hanging drywall on lightweight metal studs with 1 1/4" screws.

2. What are you guys paying to hang and tape drywall with a level 4 finish? I've got quotes at $27, $36 and $45 per board. Total boards ~ 168. Location is NYC.

More drywall questions to follow.

I paid about $65/sheet, including all materials, to have a layer of blue board installed and plastered on the ceiling of my house in MA back in 2020. Some was textured, some was smooth. No idea how that might translate to your scenario, though.

Thats quite a price spread. 45 feels high if you are supplying board, but it's nyc

1-5/8

At the day job we use 1-5/8" screws for drywall (5/8 or 1/2") on wood studs. We apply drywall adhesive to the studs. Drywall on walls gets 4 screws along the stud (one each edge and two in the field). Drywall on ceilings get 5 screws along the stud (one each edge and three in the field).
What size sheets?

Does double drywalling the ceiling help with sound transmission? This is a 2nd floor apartment with an apartment above (3rd floor).

The flooring on the 3rd floor is as follows:
1. old pine boards screwed down ( i went thru and found the squeaks).
2. Sleeper shims screwed through the pine boards into the joists. This was to achieve level.
3. 3/4" Advantech subfloor.
4. 3/4" hardwood flooring.
--> In summary its a solid floor. I live on the 3rd floor and there is absolutely no squeaking.

The ceiling on the 2nd floor is slightly dropped ( 2-3") below the joists. The drop was to achieve perfect level. I used Armstrong shortspan.

Thanks.

I did a reno a few years ago. Rockwool, resilient channel, double drywall with green glue between the layers. It was a huge amount of work.

It was quieter but I could still hear every toy that my kids dropped on the hardwood in the room above. Installing carpet in that room probably would have helped more
