i attatched two pictures from my schools recent watermelon launching competition, they are of nother teasms air cannon. They ran it up to 100psi 4 times. After the forth they noticed some surface cracks...we put it in an isolation chamber (cement block building we use for peressure testing thigns like this) and watched it blow to pieces at 75 PSI.

The flexed piece of pipe was used as basically a piston rod but ya...That was big PVC and only at 100psi...after looking at it in ansys and doing some fatigue modeling we came to the rough conclusion that 90PSi being cycled quickly was enough to cause an eventual fatigue failure. (giving it an uncertainty and some minor flaws trying to simulate any pipe damage or problems in gluing) 60cycles to failure.
