So I emailed Cornwell cust service about getting replacement parts for the box I picked up a few weeks ago. The # on the back is L1023. I inquired about replacement "foam" type liners for the drawers (they ship the current models with this but the box currently has the "open" style kitchen liner stuff in it). Also I have two "grip latch" handles that are messed up. Soo... that said. Here's the response I got.

Mr. McBee,

Our franchised dealers have geographic franchise territories and currently I do not have a dealer to service your area.

Also, due to the age of your box, Cornwell Tools no longer stocks the requested items. You might want to contact Kennedy (the manufacturer of your box) at 800-413-8665.

Sorry that I could be of no further assistance.

Here's the box in question....

I'm kinda up in the air now... I was thinking of keeping the box. However if I can't get the replacement parts to fix it. .. whats the point? I mean the drawer foam I can order single sheets from S/O or something and cut them down.. but I guess I'll email Kennedy and see. Kind of interested to know that Kennedy built the Cornwell boxes. I didn't know that.

Cornwell switched suppliers from Kennedy back to Remline around 2003. If that's a 60 inch unit, the model number is CTB6001BR. It's a strong box. I have it in Black. It ***** not being able to get repair parts for the box. I wanted to pick up a full length side locker but, the new ones aren't a perfect match for the older units. Cornwell sold boxes made by Kennedy, waterloo, and Remline over the years.

I knew Remline built some of their older boxes... wasn't sure who built this line. Its a pretty solid box and provided Kennedy can get me replacement handles for the two broken pieces I'll be a happy camper :) Thanks for the info on the part #. My oldest Cornwell catalog is a 2005 so its not listed in there. Yeah there is one of the techs at our other shop across town who has the black one. I have a feeling it will be up for sale soon as they are moving to a new building with built in boxes. I can keep ya up to date if your looking for a matching piece!

I kinda think the rep might have blown me off because I mentioned I wasn't a professional mechanic. I've seen the Cornwell truck in the area by my house and we actually have a rep who stops in at the shop from time to time. I'll see what he says and what Kennedy says. Thanks for the headsup on the Benchmark boxes. I couldn't find an online catalog for Kennedy until I searched for Benchmark. Their website is pretty stone aged. So is Cornwell's though.

Don't get the foam drawer liners!! They slide around and they're sorry as hell!! I was hoping they'd be extinct by now.

Justin, that black MATCO proformance box would look just perfect next to my red top and bottom proformance pieces. And remember, St Charles County is only 3 hours from metro KC...

i am curious- how do you like the matco performance box?? my tech friend had three bay performance box with free hutch... he used it a lot but he had overloaded on almost all drawers. so he traded it in for four bays bottom box with free hutch.

i did look at performance box and i just don't comfort with it... i dont understand why it dont be standard spring casters instead only casters... I am sorry to make little hard questions. i am snap on fan that own KRL1203 and KRL1003 as i love it all my heart and never will let it go...

I use mine at home, and I bought it partially because my little Cornwell wasn't big enough, and partly because one of my neighbors had a pretty large SO box and I wanted to out-do him. It works just fine for me...when I worked in a large body shop, it was about 40% Matco, 40% SO, and 20% MAC. I'm 6 feet tall, and really don't like the top part all that much...mine has the front cover that hides the drawer fronts and folds up out of the way. I don't like that, I wish the drawers were exposed, and the top shelf winds up being a junk collector, but it's so high that I can't see what's toward the back.

I think I'd do better with just lower boxes with a counter top of some sort on top. Mine also has a bunch of full width drawers that are not very tall vertically, so sockets have to lay flat, they can't be on upright trays or anything like that. There are a couple of taller drawers, but not enough. The real answer is that I'm out of space, and need either some wall-mount cabinets or more mobile storage.

are you talk about you and your neighbor are play game as who own bigger box??

i love to have combo like KRL1203 and KRl1003 because i have most common tools on top while bottom box hold most of heavy tools so i can be careful with my back while less bend so i can be happy...

I have several neighbors who play oneupmanship with each other with cars, boats and other "manly" stuff. I don't have the money to keep up with the ski boats and Escalades, but I can keep up with them on other shiny things, like tools and tool cabinets. So I do...

True! you can have a reason to buy tools as investment while jet ski or SUV dont make a good investment as values are decrease...

i am still buy tools as investment so i can use it to make living. my brother has lot of money laptop, computer works, and else as he is IT computer person but his tools are about 1/8 of my tools are... even he always ask me to come over to help so i bring my tools to help. i fix his cars for free like lunch (no money as my brother) even he will help or fix my computer (i don't have computer yet)....

i dont need own lot of money vehicle to show off... i only need good and reliability vehicle to be daily driver. if i want show off then i has 2003 Harley road king classic to drive around... it is not new but used because that way i can pay for it...

Deaf why you bashing on my lil ol box ;) haha.. kidding. :lol_hitti

Its not a bad box really. I'll agree it could be heavier duty and frankly if I wrenched all day; every day for a living I would step up to a higher line Matco or S/O unit. Possibly even a Mac Macsimizer. That said.. for a good mid sized box its great. You have the deeper drawers than most "base" models and the overall construction seems to be pretty good. This ones not perfect. I have a couple of slides that might need a little work and one detent that is broken (I just need to hit up the Matco guy and fix those problems) but its a good solid box for a DIY guy for sure and even a begining tech. It won't ever touch a KRL series S/O box though. Then again thats not really where its aimed. :)

Dave.. only a short 3 hour drive. Hahaha. Actually I might need to drive over there at some point anyways. I haven't been over to see my friends at Adrenaline in awhile and well.. I should! ;)

Sounds like your setup is like mine... I "fixed" the not having a deep enough drawer for sockets problem by doing a little moving around of the drawers...

This is a shot after I got it loaded.... its WAAAYYY more packed now but this is the most current shot.
Alot more room than the same setup in the 18" deep Kobalt unit...

Adrenaline is, I think, on Ehlmann Rd, which is right next to the cemetery where I work. Are they the guy who modify little import cars with body kits, NOS and stuff like that?

Yeah thats them... I always remember its the exit before Zumtobel or something like that. Just because its a weird name. Yeah they do alot of Nissan stuff. I've been buddies with them for several years. The owners are good people even if they have some snotty kid customers ;)

It's the I-70 exit at Cave Springs, if you get to Zumbehl you went too far. St Charles Memorial Gardens is the cemetery where I work, can't miss it...we have almost 12,000 permanent residents, adding more daily.

Any other ideas? Maybe I can disassmble the handle and "fix" it. Otherwise I could try ordering a replacement handle for the Benchmark series Kennedy's and see what happens. However I notice their drawer setup is the opposite (long drawers on the right and small on the left). Which means the "latch" for the griplatch type system would be on the wrong end of the handles.

Another thought is to just do away with the griplatch type pulls and either fab or attempt to retrofit some other handle. The bottom drawer seems to stay closed on its own and the box is on a fairly level surface. Also locking the drawers in place is a matter of turning the key. I dunno.

You are not comparing apples to apples.

The Pro-formance series, or now called the 4S is designed to compare to the Snap On KRA series. The pics on their site don't show spring casters.

The thing to remember is that the 4S is designed to be a entry level/starter/price point type of box.
