Some lathe questions

Is lathe tooling specific to a particular model of lathe - (for instance can tooling for a Craftsman 101 work on a 109), or is it brand specific, generic, adaptable, all of the above?

I have a sturdy metal desk, with some useful drawers etc. that I think would be good to place a lathe on. It is 4ft across x 27in deep. Does that sound like it would be a good base?

Do I need to have a dedicated 110v circuit for it?

Thank you,
L

As far as tooling, it will vary. The Craftsman 101 lathes came in 6, 10, and 12" swing. Some of the 6" swing stuff would work, but not all. Really need to ask about a specific item. Need to know the specs of your machine, spindle and tailstock taper size, spindle thread, etc. The desk should be fine for a 6" swing lathe. As far as the outlet, shouldn't need it's own circuit, a 1/2 HP is too big for a 6" swing lathe, so anything smaller should be fine.

Which lathe do you have?
The metal desk would be perfect for the small 109-series lathe.
Don't know about the larger ones.

Change gears, steady and follow rests, and tailstocks are perty much machine specific. Cutting tools, centers, drill chucks, tool posts, and some chucks will move over to a new lathe when necessary.
