Has anyone contacted Jori at Epstein's to see if he can get you pricing & availability for the drop ins?

Epstein's has always been pretty good about getting access to new SK tools.

If I wanted one, that's who I would contact:beer:[/QUOTEI am interested in actual retail price will be at Epsteins , not SK list price.

Got the sell sheet and placed an order today for the 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets and drop in mechanisms. Prices will be much better than what's on SK's website currently. Will let you guys know first thing when they arrive.

Not a lot of money for the drop in, considering how cheap you can pick up used SK ratchets, will probably try one of each drive size to see what they are like.

Harry Epstein's wins again (I'll be calling when I go to lunch in 5 min)

I got a response from SK's customer service, they recommended Grainger, MSC, and Amazon...none of which had them on their web sites.

Still, I'd rather buy from Epstein.

Typically, when my SKs wore out, the core would shift around, which was part of the "Slip/Kill" problem. The teeth in the handle and the surfaces that the cores rode on all showed visible wear.

With these and the new teardrops (if they release the 1/4 & 1/2), I can see an expensive Epstein's Day in my future next summer.

Just placed an order at HJE for some misc SK stuff and 2 3/8 DT kits and a 1/4 DT kit.
I will be hard to improve the SK 1/4 ratchet, I have several and just love them!

I knew Jori at Epstein's would come through for you guys:D

Now once you guys get your new toys, you need to tell us if it's a night and day difference in performance or it's a little better.

Did the tooth count in my Kraueter, Klein, Gambles, and JCPenney ratchets just double? My thumbwheel ratchets too? lol.

I want to see the underside of the selector cap.
I have Klein ratchets and a few others that could benefit if the kits will work....

I'm VERY interested in hearing the feedback from you 'early adopters' as they say in the tech world.

Dear Mr Epstein
Can you please sort out your international shipping costs? I've just put $88 worth of SK ratchets in my basket, and you want $71 to post to the UK! And I still have to pick up the duty .....:willy_nil

Nice, thanks! Looks like they are pretty popular. 26.5 hours after you post it, 15 3/8" and 7 1/4" drop-ins. Looking forward to getting them!

Give em an email and see what they can do. They'll work with you to find the cheapest shipping cost. They're still not a massive business that gets major shipping discounts, so it may not be as cheap as ordering from Amazon US or another such company.

Just ordered a 1/4 and a 3/8. If they work out well, I'll be ordering more, and some 1/2 as well.

Jori, I'm glad you folks ship via USPS. Shipping to Alaska would be prohibitively expensive any other way.

Nigel,

With International customers there's usually a cheaper way to send it than what our website says. If we can fit something into a flat rate box and save you money, we will. The price our website gives is just the standard priority shipping by weight which should be fairly accurate. If you PM me your order I can figure out what shipping would actually be.

thanks

I just ordered the 3/8 ratchet, two 3/8 kits, and a 1/4 kit from HJE. I will be putting the 3/8 kits in my 3870 and an old Mac that has been sitting for a while with no guts in it. I always thought that the 1/4 ratchets were fine toothed enough, so I'm not real sure how much there is to gain with the DT. Maybe the 1/4 kit will go better in a 40971 rather than the standard length 40970.

I agree, that's why I only bought the 3/8". My 1/4" is my favorite 1/4", it's just perfect the way it is. If I need finer, I have a SnapOn that's finer, but I rarely use it at all.

And I'm pretty satisfied with my 1/2" as I generally don't need fine tooth with 1/2"...just most often need brute strength, which my 1/2" SK has in spades.

But my 3/8" SK's are not my favorite in 3/8"; and I'm hoping this changes that for me. I really like the knurled handles for 90% of what I do.

Well, look what came in today. Got some of the mechanisms as well. Will be shipping a lot of backorders this afternoon.

Epsteins for the win again!! Still just can't believe how fast and awesome they are to work with.

But on to the drop ins. The 3/8s was a direct hit out of the park; smooth as butter and feels really nice. A little "clicky" compared to the old worn out one it replaced but that might just be it's newness. I can't wait to put it through it's paces.

The 1/4... I was not quite as impressed. Maybe it is because it's not broke in, or the grease was cold or something but it upped the backdrag quite a bit IMO. Along with that it was also very noisy; now I know the well you use it not listen to it guys are out there. I'm not saying it hurts anything I'm just saying it feels/sounds a litttle clunky. I'm aware that may go away with a few hours of use and I plan to find out. 50567bf2c27b22d5d1b78c247d00b8de.jpg0e706fb9949b3415e0002d0193871c6a.jpgc45f9b26dc8c2ac4139ec882e0aa5cc8.jpg

Thanks, Jori! And thanks SK for the fine upgrade to my 3/8" drive ratchets. I haven't ordered the 1/2" drop-in yet, as I wanted to check them out on the 3/8" first, and I'm happy with the 1/2" rats already.

Got mine in the mail today and installed it in my 3870. It does seem a little loud and clunky. Im not sold on it being an upgrade over the original one yet. Gotta put it to use for a while before I decide.

The ratchets we're upgrading are worn pretty smooth, so we have to expect that a new mechanism is going to have stiffer springs, more backdrag, and so on.

Welp, thanks to this thread, I went from considering one of the new DT ratchets, to compiling a huge order of stuff I didn't realize I needed from HJE.

Thanks, everyone, you're all my enablers. ;)
