Jnmario,

Having been in several discussions with B17E1943 dating back several years, I can guarantee that he was facetiously busting yer balls, hence the friendly beer emoji.

On the other hand, having just read your 'Some pipe wrenches' thread I can totally understand your reaction here on this one, but trust me when I say that it's just a weird set of circumstances.

Unfortunately, there are a few guys here who DO make a habit of rude unnecessary comments. When someone fashions himself a self-appointed expert as back up for an anecdotal opinion that is itself back up for a rude unnecessary comment, well, what more do you need to know who to completely ignore as irrelevant in the future - I certainly do!

As someone who has welcomed you and engaged with you on a few threads now, I hope you will take some friendly advice, though.

1/ Think about minimizing the number of your new threads and perhaps organizing your tools and your posting by a more focused topic.

For example, we have threads dedicated to wrenches by type (DOE, DBE, Combination, Pipe, etc). We also have threads dedicated to tools by brand (one for Plomb, one for Williams, one for Snap-on, etc). And some guys have a thread just for ALL their own new vintage tools finds.

As you have no doubt noticed, the pages are limited. New threads get pushed to page 2 pretty quickly. It would be chaotic, with impossible turnover, if everyone started a new thread every time they wanted to show a mess of wrenches, mixed types, and mixed brands. Tacking onto existing focused threads keeps topics and conversations about tools by type and mfgr contiguous rather than disjointed (there's show and tell, and there's also community-wide show and tell and helpful and important research going on here on GJ...), and it also helps with the search function to minimize the proliferation of redundant threads.

More to point, I think assimilating here as a new guy goes better for the new guys when they join existing threads and start new threads only when it truly is a new topic (unidentified tool, obscure mfgr or brand, etc) or something outrageously special. There is no 'Guide for Newbies' and, because it's a forum, there is no 'Site Map' for the dedicated threads, either. The only way to know they're there is watch them pop up on page 1, or search by subject. And maybe nobody agrees with me! I have no authority on the matter. Just my $.02 :)

2/ While photos are always a must - markings are not always visible, markings are almost always extremely important, and sometimes they are the only way to identify a wrench. So accompanying photos by descriptions of what you're showing by mfgr, model number, sizes, etc, also helps with interest. And, it registers in the search function.

Again, just trying to be helpful and maybe lobby for what I think works best around here. I will read and chime in on all kinds of threads, including threads just like this one. But I do skim or just ignore them sometimes, too, because they are often redundant and that gets old.
