Heres the "carriage house". I restored this last fall, repair slate shingles, replaced bad siding, new paint. This is assumed to be built in early 1900's

This is believed to be a recycle grave stone used in the foundation of the above barn, I thought it to be quite interesting.

This will clean up and paint nicely, I would like to make it an addition to my garage. The building behind will be gone soon too!

Very cool pics thanks for posting.

Are there any plans to salvage the wood, etc. from the buildings that are coming down?

Unfortunately there are about 8 or 9 buildings, including a very large barn, and 2 houses that will all be razed thru eminent domain. I may save one of the smaller ones for reuse on my property. There is one building that is believed to have been a slave quarters (this place was a very large working farm) that will be measured, dismantled and reconstructed on another part of the property. We will try to salvage as much of the lumber as possible, what will become of it, im not sure at this time. The farm has been in the same family for CENTURIES, they don't need the money from it, and they had thought about reconstructing, but they already have quite a few outbuildings and they just don't need any more.

Interesting thread. Do you have any photos of the restoration work you have done on any of he above buildings?

Any of the barns related to tobacco farming? Post #5 reminds me of the ones with the openings that regulated the drying process in the Southern Maryland area near me.

Second pic is the carriage house we restored last fall. Other than the small grain/corn shed which is next in line to be restored the others will be demolished. I will get a couple more pics of some more of the ones that are going away. I'm pretty sure they did not grow tobacco. It was a large dairy barn. The side I show is where the hay was stored and they allowed gaps in the siding for air. The other side the siding is held tight. Something else interesting about this particular barn are two covered "runs" attached to the barn, going into the enclosed barnyard. One on each side about 100 feet long. Granite walls halfway up and siding up to the roof. As far as the truck, im still trying to get ahold of it.

I'm a sucker for old building .. they often take more money fixing then replacing.

I have learned the hard way.

The old houses & barns look great, to bad they are coming down. The truck looks to be a 1957 Chevy either a 3100 or 3200, can't see the bed to give you an exact. Look like it was restored late 1990's or early 2000's.
