With those types of go-karts....does understeer and oversteer come into play at all?? How exactly does suspension and handling geometry work on these

Omg understeer was what I was fighting all day. Its a HUGE part or karting... The handling that is. They are pretty simple to work on, but it takes ALOT of practice to "get to know" your chassis and how to set itup for different track contiditions... front and wear track width, torsion bars, gearing, clutch engagement, carb mixture adjustment, tire pressure (1psi can be the difference between sliding all over the track and having the chassis handle like a dream) Axle stiffness, tire compounds, Weight distribution, Castor, camber, toe in/out. Everything youd find on a normall car and then some. The only thing is, is that these karts dont have any suspension, so the way the frame flexes is what determines how it will handle.

This is my kind of kart

2005test-007.jpg

460lbs, about 75hp, sequential 6 speed gearbox, laser cut disk brakes, and sticky hosiers
Does just under 2G skidpad, 2G when you brake, and 0-60 in under 3 seconds :)

Well The karts top speed depends on how you gear it... The fastest Ive ever heard of My type of kart going is 73 at the milford grandprix down in delaware. I Can hit 62 at the end of the straght away at my track, and Ive get 67 or 68 up at Oakland valley in Middletown NY.

Shifter karts are karts that use 125cc, 45+hp, with 6speed engines (almost like dirtbike engines) and they can do 0-100-0 in under 10 seconds... yes, 0 to 100mph and back to 0 in 10 seconds. They hit about 80 at my track, but can easily do a buck20 on larger courses.

As for the G' forces... racing karts have the "hotrod" kart beat... On a decent set of tires, Karts can pull up to 3g's when cornering. Trust me, I know.... I run a tillet T7 full padded seat, that fits really tight, and A rib guard(to make me fit even tighter) and I still wind up with bruised ribs at the end of a raceday.

Karting is a ton of fun (when you don't weigh a ton). I don't own a kart like you but I've done races with Dino, Endurance Karting, and a couple of leagues with F1 Boston. I've been to your neck of the woods to Oakland Valley and to Westhampton on Long Island.

OVRP is such a beautiful track... Of course, its only like 4 feet wide, and there isnt much pit area, but it is in such a great area.

Im looking to run up at F1 boston, probably over the winter on the offseason, of course, its quitea drive, but the place looks awesome.

Go to the outdoor track. My friends that have karts spend a lot of time there and say it's much much nicer than any other facility in the Northeast. I've been there and it looks impressive but I've never driven the full track.

Don't bother with F1 Indoors, they treat you like an 8 year old.

Oh your good! The OVRP guys call it "the parkinglot track" we all OVRP "the bathroomless track" lol.

They are thinking about building a dedicated karting track in the back corner of the field on the left in the third pic.

There should be bathrooms at the end of the bleachers, near the concession building. I'm always at the pit side though so for all I know they might've closed down the specator bathrooms.

I thought that small road course across from the motorcross track was already dedicated for karts?

Has anyone timed what a kart like yours does in the quarter mile? Or are they kinda limited due to gearing?

No, weve got the bathrooms, I mean Oakland Valley doesn have any bathrooms... just a porta-john lol.

And no, as much as Id love to run the road course, its under construction...still. There area few problems with that track, I dont know if youve ever been on it, but there is a real dicey hair pin turn... basically, you go over a small hill then quickly do a hairpin turn... Karts are so low that we couldnt see what is going on on the other side of this little "hill" so there would be TONS of accidents there.

As for the quater mile, Im not sure. Id probably blow the thing up by the halfway point, so it would probably be better suited to the 1/8 mile track. As for gearing, I have a HUGE range of front and rear drivers.... now, those shifter karts can 0-100-back to 0 in 9 seconds, so they could probably run some insane 1/4 times.

Karting is awesome...Ive been racing karts for 17 years now. Had a stint with Coyote factory sponsorship in the mid 90s, late 90s to early 2000's with Trick racing the Gold Cup Series, and Banshee racing the B+S 300 down at Charlotte in 96-99.

Even raced the Milford Street race a few times in the late 90s as well.

Karts are easily hitting 90s to low 100s at Summit Point Raceway in WV
