Some strange garage door questions

Hi All,
I need to get a new garage door installed, roll up, aluminum, nothing special....

1. The height I have is 7.5 feet, which forces me to go with a custom door. Can't I just get rails, etc. for an 8' tall door and have the excess 6" of door sticking up inside the garage?

2. How hard is it to install myself? I can weld, paint, build engines, etc. doesn't seem like rocket science. I may have someone do the torsion spring but the door installation looks pretty easy. And I have the time to do it.

3. Are there certain rules/laws on what fiberglass garage doors can be made of? Specifically resins? I need to make carriage doors after final inspection and was thinking of a metal frame with a fiberglass skin. Long story short, the garage door is recessed 5' back from the roof/gutter line of the house. Enclosing it would have counted as square footage, so we left it "for later".

Thanks!

Is this new construction?
Do you need the doors to get an O P?
It seems you are spending a lot of money for something that will be temporary.
But to answer your questions :
1: Yes
2: Yes, you can DIY. And if you get a real cheap, light weight door, you may be able to just skip the springs. The alignment of the tracks to the wall is critical. Keep it square. And the alignment of the rollers to the tracks is fussy. Just follow the directions carefully.
3: I don't know of any material laws, but CA can bee funny. You see them made of wood, fiberglass, metal, even just a rug.

1. You can use the 8' tracks no problem, alot of times though the top section will rub when it is almost closed. Mainly because normally the door normally begins turning away from the header as soon as it comes up.

2. It is not hard installing garage doors the spring is the only tricky part as it can be dangerous.

3. Can't help ya:headscrat They can really be made of anything you want as long as it doesn't need to pass a windcode inspection.

Thanks guys.
I will probably have someone install it for me. Most likely with a 7' standard size door. But I will ask the garage door guy if an 8' is possible.

The door is not temporary but will be out of sight once my newer swing out doors go in.
