some threads ascending in time and some descendng?

Did I stay out in the sun too long, or are some threads numbered in ascending time order and some in reverse?
If so, is this something the thread creator sets, or is this some setting I've flipped by mistake in some threads?

I noticed 2 threads get merged this week, that really messed up the time codes.

The Questions and Suggestions thread. Looks like the most recent is at the top? But most threads the most recent is the higher numbered page. I know I'm missing something here.

Everything in that shot has been pinned (see the push pin icon?) So they stay at the top of the subforum regardless of other threads that are started or active
