I just stumbled across this box on Craigslist San Diego:

I didn't even know these came in a cardboard box originally.

$650 seems like a fair price considering the age and condition. What do you guys think?

Wow! Just buy the thing. Or send a link to Snap On maybe? I would hazard a guess you'll not see one with its original packaging again.

WOW , the seller needs to put it on ebay to get anything close to that. He or she is looking for a collector, most of Craigslist is cheap *** users.

It's one of those things, that it is only going to be worth what they can sell it for in a given amount of time. Not much, if anything to compare it to.

Edit, hope they have the front handle.

That is showroom new and belongs in a garage that is equally as spotless. There's a place for "well used" toolboxes and new ones, that one belongs in a Snap On museum.

There was a short spell when I was fascinated by NOS, but they are display-only. Any use and the value goes way down. For the past many years I only buy user tools.

I have that box well as several top boxes with patina and more drawers for which $50 was enough

UPDATE:

Well, I talked to the seller. It was the same old story - The ~90 year old father of a friend of his was selling off all his old tools / stock and the seller happened to be in the right place at the right time. He said the older man had a LOT more factory new tools and boxes (Plomb, Proto USA, HUOT, etc), which he also nabbed.

Seller said he sold the SO box yesterday (Sunday) and got the asking price ($650) after just a few low ball offers.

Also, he said that it did include the front handle, along with the original book / manual, hardware and everything that would have come with it back in 1965.

The buyer was a man who did have an equally immaculate shop who restored old ('50s - '60s) heavy duty trucks and intended on using it in his period-correct shop.

Glad the guy got asking price for that sweet piece.
