wow... wonder what the dealer would give him for trade in.. lol
I understand WHY he would list it for so much, but highly doubt he will get anywhere near what he's asking..

Must be one of those "Sure Ill sell it Honey" deals. When nobody bites, he might be able to keep it for himself. "I listed it, nobody was interested."

I have the small version of it, 1936 replica of the first SO Tool Box. The wife has it full of her watch collection

Definately a nice piece of history with a lot of patina.

God bless this guy, but who does he think is going to buy it at that price? Even in a GREAT economy.

I'm not one to complain to people about what they think their stuff is worth-if it's yours, you can think it's worth a million AFAIK, but that price is absurd.

I would buy it if I had the 17,500 IT'S ORIGINAL:thumbup:

I am not saying the price is not out of control. I am saying that box is in perfect condition for the age IMO

Now come on now, all you got to do is trade him your new-ish car or truck. All the car is going to do is depreciate. Think of how much more this will be worth in ten years! It's an investment really.

Wow, definitely WAY cool. I would love to have it. However....

For me, I could only enjoy something like this if I found it at a bargain price. Most collectible items are not hard to find at all, if you are willing to pay huge dollars for them. For example: Want a 1971 Hemi Cuda? No problem. Get out your check book, and I can find one for you within 24 hours. Want an original Balabushka pool cue? They are available, and expensive. Want an original WWII GI-issue tommy gun, with proof of authenticity and legal paperwork? They are on the market (I just saw one at a gun show last year. Gorgeous!) Beautiful inlaid furniture, antique toys, rare guitars, etc, etc, etc. It's all within easy reach, if you don't care how much you pay for it.

My point is that, for ME...a large part of the joy is trying to find something old and rare and desirable at a bargain price. That's what happened when I found my original LS-6 454 Chevelle at about a third of its value. That makes that car pretty special to me.

But again, Wow. Way cool tool box. I want to find one like it for $500, or less. :dunno:

Drinking Tool-aid for sure! That's a great box, but seller is hallucinating. That's like the Plomb wrench on fleabay with the $200+ starting bid. Insane.

Im pretty sure thats whats going on here. Only problem might be is when she decides to sell it herself for $100 with out him knowing.

I say 'shame on him'. Not for asking that price but for trying to sell his grandfathers box that he bought new. Even if he didn't have a good relationship with him, he should still keep it. Even if he doesn't want it, i think it needs to stay in the family.

My grandfather was a grouchy SOB and when he was alive I didn't like to be around him much. I have some of his tools, and they have helped me to understand who he was and why he was the way he was. I have decided to keep the damaged/broken ones (rather than warranty) for the basic fact they they were his.

None of us personally would be in the market for that box. But, I could see a commercial customer or some really rich SOB that would snap it up regardless of the cost. It's way cool and when are you EVER going to find another one. Never.

Good luck to him.

Honestly, I dont thing that the paint is original. The outside red color of both boxes matches. The problem is, the bottom K200 box is grey inside. If it was an original red box, it would be red inside and out. The paint, even if it was original, is pretty well worn and faded.

In this condition, the box is worth about $800-1200 in todays market.
