This is from a period when they had (occasionally steam driven) central shafts running belt driven gear, correct?

Correct, that alone tells what wear should have occurred over that amount of time IF they were properly oiled and maintained.

A cool old lathe. Just a wee bit more bed than the average shop can swallow. At around 120 years old she's just getting good and broke in. No mention if the change gears for threading and power feed are still there but with that motor/transmission conversion I'd expect some nice slow spindle speeds.
