Some would say I had a backslide yesterday, I on the other hand think I bought some great stuff. I just need to figure out where to put it all.

I will be working in the shop cleaning and organizing today so maybe I can get a nice update posted.

I have some items for Craigslist as well as some for ebay.

One thing I've noticed is you have to STOP buying.

If you keep up the "oh it'd be easier if I had ____" or "i could save money in the future I could have ____" you keep acquiring.

Same reason more storage/shelving/etc. is a bad idea. I am in the same crush - I have a ton of storage, so I use it. When I clean I think hey, it'd be great to have MORE storage to put this stuff on. And it keeps going.

Just my .02 :) I'm in the same boat. Oh yeah... I have 5 boats.

I just couldn't do it. I went to pick up a vise and some louvered wall panels for the plastic bins and I ended up buying a truckload of stuff. Luckily it was Sunday and the bank wasn't open, because I ran out of cash and he would not take paypal. The good thing is that at least one thing I bought is going to replace another item, I just have to sell it on craigslist. At least I have some goals, no one is perfect, but I am honest and I am making an effort.

I spent the afternoon dismantling things. It made more sense to get some of the big stuff torn down, it gained me the most space. I cut up the light bar that I bought at the auction, I even got it out to the scrap pile. I will test the lights, not sure if they are worth much, but I will find out.

I also ground off all the slag and remaining welds from the table top that I hope to use for a welding cart/table. I did not snap any pictures of the process, I was just happy it was warm enough to do it outside. Here are some of my deals from Sunday's trip.

Palmgren 8" Machinists Vise

Louvered panels, the nasty looking bent one was free. I bought 13 of them and most were 18" wide by 60" long, some were longer. I am still not 100% sure where these are going yet, some will end up getting cut up to fit in smaller places, some may even get sold.

I bought a few more spud wrenches, you can never have enough spud wrenches!

I also bought another cart, yes another cart. This one is heavier duty than one that I would like to replace. It used to have doors, but I kind of like it open.

Then there are the bins, I bought lots of bins, they are all heavy duty USA made ones.

I have no real clue why I bought this arm, but it seemed like a cool future use project. I was thinking of setting it up near the bridgeport and the lathe to use as a crane. I will need to get a small electric winch, but it is rated to support 150 pounds at the tip.

Last, but not least, I bought an 12 volt electric lift cart. This will replace my old manual one. It has a larger table and 1000 pound capacity. Considering the table is larger, it doesn't seem much bigger than the old one.

Next order of business is to get the John Deere torn apart so I can sell the good bits. I also need to try and figure out why one of the compressors I bought does not work. If I can get them both working, one can go to the house.

I'm envious - wish I had more time in my shop, and not somewhere else.

Thanks for keeping me inspired to keep my project list, longer than my available time list!

I wish I was inspired to keep my list of projects to a minimum. At least I am starting to realize that what ever I have guestimated for time needed to complete a project is always wrong.

 Just caught up on your thread. I would have bought that lift cart also. It'll be very handy.

I tested the old rotary lights and they all work. I figured they would, now I need to find a buyer or a use for them.

Now I am on to the small compressor, hopefully it is just a wiring issue.

The compressor is just the pressure switch, it looks like someone caught the cord and kept pulling. Part of the switch is broken off. I ordered a new one, so all said and done I will have about $175 in two compressors, I don't feel that is too bad. It will be nice to have one at the house and one in the wood shop. All I need to do now is wait for the parts to come in. I am going outside, hopefully I can get the rest of the trash out of the trailer so I can start loading things from the conex into it. I am feeling "the cost of storage" now, at least physically I will be. I will update later.

Until I bought my house and now my shop building I moved about every 3-4 years. As much stuff as I purged each time I moved I am a bit scared to think of how much I am keeping and don't realize because I am not moving anytime soon.
The more room you have the more stuff you will cram into it.

That is pretty much it. I just hope to have all my space crammed full of useful stuff that I can actually find when I need it, then I will be happy. ;)

I worked on my pom poms for a while, got them pretty well organized.

Two full dumpsters, a full truck load to my Father's shop and I still have a mess of them. I am working on trying to sell them, hopefully I will. If I don't sell them, they ended up costing my about $100 and about 6 hours of my time and that just *****.

I got a few rolls of oil absorbent pad as well…….

My buddy bought 36 rolls, I ended up with four. I have one sold for sure and another one is supposed to go to another friend. I figure they should last me a while, what do you think?

I spent the afternoon moving stuff to the trailer, I only got a few things in there, but having them out of the shop makes a big difference for sure. I can't wait to start moving stuff from the conex to the trailer, that is going to be a lot of fun (do you hear the sarcasm?). I cut up the last two pieces for the pallet racking, then I put a few things up out of the way.

Actually, yes you can. In fact, even one can be too many if you are not an iron worker.

All this for the mens varsity cheerleading squad????

You guys kill me. I wish I could say it really was for cheerleaders, they are for mopping up oil off the surface of the water. I was going to post some pictures of men cheerleaders, but then we would all need eye bleach.

I took a road trip with my brother today, he was looking at a couple of bucket trucks. It was a good day, but long. Looks like he knows what he wants and now what he doesn't want. Hopefully he can either find one that is in budget or make a deal with the higher priced one we looked at today. The trip was a nice break from my normal tasks and the company was good.

Cheerleading practice is canceled, looks like all the pom poms are sold. They are coming to pick them up tomorrow. I like a quick profit, plus I get my trailer empty!

Sorry, not one picture was taken. I guess I should have. My brother took pictures of the bucket truck, but I didn't take any.

Synopsis (you will need to use your imagination):

8:30 AM. Highway, rain, traffic, more traffic, first bucket truck, highway, second bucket truck, shoot the **** with owner, highway, lots of traffic, cheesecake factory, Lego store, container store, highway, and home. 12:05 AM

POM POMS are gone!

Then I spent the afternoon trying to fix an air leak on the 5 ton, I had to pull apart a valve that actuates the fan clutch. It took a while to figure it out, of course it still leaks even after I "fixed" it. I am going to try one more time since the replacement valve is pricey.

I got my parts to fix the little rigid compressor last night as well as my replacement wheel dollies. Don't try and use wheel dollies for machinery, it doesn't work out very well.

Made it to a Chipotle with a minute to spare. Still have about two hours to go.

Just got home, going to bed soon, fun little trip. The guy had an entire blacksmith setup, mostly outside. There were tons of cool things, but it was too dark for good pictures. Have a good night everyone.

Yesterday before the road trip I had my Dad help me get the boat over to my shop, he was happy to help (and gain 30 feet of space back in his shop!). I was worried it was not going to fit without a big headache, boy did I get lucky. I can lower the motor and that will gain me enough room to walk around the rear. I think I am also going to put it on some wheel dollies, so I can maximize the space. It will most likely be in here until early January so I need to have it as shop friendly as it can be.

Looks like a pretty nice boat. Nice that you and your dad could both end up with a good boat/motor combination.

Thanks, it needs some work, but nothing major. The transom is in overall good condition, I would have to say that was my biggest concern.

I was going to have it shrink wrapped, but the big aluminum top will make a great main support, so I will probably just end up adding some 2x4s to keep the tarp up.

I have a new steering linkage coming, then I need to figure out how long my throttle/shift cables will be. I am also going to make a new "dash" for the console, this one has way too many holes in it. Rest assured there will be other things I will need to fix and figure out. I am not looking forward to installing the 2 cycle oil tank.

I got the boat on the wheel dollies, after sitting on the dollies I can put the motor all the way down. Now there is plenty of room to walk around it, as well as working space for my other messes (projects).

I am almost done stripping the John Deere tractor, it will be awesome not to have to move it anymore. I am going to list a few parts on craigslist and the rest on ebay. Hopefully they sell fast, then I don't even have to worry about storing them for long. Of course I won't probably get to listing all of them until after Christmas, I have way too much on my plate and don't need the extra complications. I really think I am learning from my past, before I would kill myself to list the parts, then freak out because I couldn't get everything I needed to done.

I think you need another project Strouty. But knowing you, you'll have another one before the end of the year.:willy_nil

I have a couple projects lined up, I am trying to mellow out until after Christmas. I also hope the weather starts acting like winter so I can actually start working in the shop, we keep having all this warm weather, so I end up doing outside stuff. I never thought I would actually want bad weather, but I just can't work inside when it is so nice outside.

John Deere has left the building, literally. I delivered the carcass to my brother and from there it will go to another one of his friends. I now have to put away all the parts that will be sold. I am almost feeling productive.

Tomorrow I have a small job to do on a roof top. I owe some labor and this should make it an even swap. Since I have been on a roll, I wish I could just continue with what I have been doing. I have a feeling this week is going to be very unproductive at least as far as the shop goes.

Got the air compressor fixed, now it works like new. The John deere motor had an electric clutch that took a little effort to take off. One of the bolts was almost stripped, ended up having to pound a 14mm on instead of using 9/16.

It is a great feeling for sure.

The last couple of days I have been helping my buddy with his shop. It is nice to be able to help him, he has helped me out a lot. I am going to be working in the shop this weekend, picking up some supplies for the boat tomorrow.

I spent a little money on the snap on truck today, nice additions to the toolbox, can't wait to use them.
