Strouty: how's the thumb? I've heard of the hot paperclip and never tried it. do you just heat it red hot and push it through the fingernail from the top or are you saying to go under the fingernail from the top of the fingernail?

If you are good enough to shift a big truck without using a clutch you will get the hang of the new truck.

BTW you mention your back hurts. are you still using your inversion tables?

I am not sure if my back hurts yet, this truck took me out the last time I drove it. The clutch is hard to push and my lower back gets freaked out and goes into spasms. I won't know for sure until tomorrow. I inverted three times today and I saw the chiropractor because my neck has been stuck. I think if I drove a stick shift all the time it would not be so bad, but I switched to autos because of the issues I was having. The only standard I have now is my boom truck and it is fully synchronized so you shift it like a little truck.

The thumb is sore, but still no signs of bruising, hopefully it will feel better tomorrow, I have a bunch of stuff to do.

On a scheduling note, I have reworked my schedule and talked to one customer and they have agreed to postpone a bit of the work and understand my schedule is tight right now. This made my day, maybe my month. So things are back on track and I am now not running around like a headless chicken. All I have to do now is perform enough to meet my new schedules, basically I bought myself two extra weeks and that was what I figured I needed (5 weeks worth of work to do in 3 weeks).

I was stressing about a lot, my GF's birthday is Thursday so I have been trying to get some things done for her, the excavator, truck and trailer situation has been a bit stressful as well. Then I have shipments coming in, things I need to pickup, a truck I need to rebuild to pickup a tower, foundations to pour, well you get the idea. As long as I keep moving forward I should be fine, some of the mess is me waiting for people that are going to be helping me. Then I have customers that have me in limbo. This is all self created, I let things get a bit carried away and took on a bit too much work without extra help, then I said "yes" to a bunch of things I really did not want to do, but now I can't delegate them because I am the only person who knows enough about them to get them done. I have been working on saying "no" but between my Dad and my brother, I have a hard time with it.

Oh how well I know the not being able to say "No" to family and good clients but mostly family. Later this week I need to go cover my fathers store roof 85x30 flat with tarps, they have been having a few leaking issues and their roofer can't get to it till spring.

In order to do it I need help, oldest son and daughters boyfriend so with their schedules I will be doing this in the evening (school and work neither of them is done till 4pm and the store is an hour away)

My thumb is starting to show a bruise and it still feels lovely, at least it isn't swollen. The trailer to haul the excavator is ready, so I should be driving trailers around today. The good news is the back seems to be pretty good. The left leg is having some serious tightness, but I think I can fix that by using a lacrosse ball strategically on the pressure points.

I need to see if the electrician is still planning on coming over.

Strouty, on my short list of one-arm benefits, whacking my thumb with a hammer is near the top. However, I still feel your pain -- hope the ache goes away quick.

Bob, you are a super great guy. I'm sure you wish you could whack your thumb with a hammer. But maybe some of us shouldn't complain about the small stuff. It's just human nature. I complain all the time about my back and get ugly when it hurts when I walk or try on lift something that only weighs 25 lbs. Then I go into town and see someone in a wheelchair acting like they are having the best day of their life, because they are outside enjoying the sun and air. I then kick myself in the *** for being so selfish. Thanks Bob. I feel like I'm having a much better day now.

It is all relative, so don't feel bad, just try and find the good in everything you do. Things get me down, but I have to remember that overall things could be much worse.

Today did not go how I planned, I drove the truck to my shop, fixed the linkage that caused my thumb issue, then got a call that the trailer was done. So I hooked up to the other trailer, brought it to the inspection place, picked up the first trailer and headed out to get the excavator. I then hauled it to my shop, unloaded it, unhooked the trailer and went back to the inspection place to have them do some exhaust work to the truck. I am now at home, but have to go back to the shop tonight to get my car.

The electrician rescheduled things until tomorrow afternoon and I got a call about another new tower, then talked with the owner of the repair place (working on the truck and trailer) about building one at his place, then I got a call that some more of my supplies have arrived and need to either be picked up or scheduled for delivery.

So I did not get anything on my list done, but I got a bunch of big picture stuff out of the way, plus now I know I can drive the truck without totally killing my back, at least so far, who knows what it will feel like tomorrow.

Can I ask what that is all about?

I approached him last year about building a tower on his property and he wasn't sure, now he is getting letters about it from big companies, so we are talking about it again.

Strouty: sounds like you had a very productive day. don't be so hard on yourself. i think i remember you saying you were going to look at a big old Reed 8 inch vise. is it a private sale or at an auction?

one of my favorite vises so either ask here on the thread or email or PM me if you might need any information on value or any issues.

since you are going to have to go to the shop tonight any work involved or maybe just hang out at home and go early in the AM since i think you said your shop is 30 minutes drive each way.

cheers

Drives, the run to the shop is a mercy mission. I have no car right now and my GF has to be to work at 6:45 AM so she does not want to go any earlier.

The vise is a local sale, they have not responded yet, so it could be long gone. No phone number, so I figure I have a fighting chance.

DLC, I get a little carried away sometimes. I need to break things up a bit.

I did get to show her the counter, she had to go with me, she was my ride.

She wasn't as excited as I had hoped she would be, but I know she was tired, a bit cranky, and there was no real light, so a flash light was the best I could do.

Anyways, she will be over on Friday so I can change the oil in her car as well as mine. I can't win every time, I did get her a new computer (well used, but new to her) and she does like that.

Strouty: I bet your GF was just thinking about how she was going to girl up the space with pics or how to best use it. I'm guessing you got lucky last night unless you were too tired or sore if she got a newer computer?

Hope you are having a productive day so far.

Last night was not a lucky night. We are going out for dinner for her Birthday tonight, so my day is going to be cut short.

As far as being sore, the thumb is the worst part. The electrician is still supposed to come over today, it will be nice to have the RV panel wired up outside. I will be able to use the pressure washer on that side of the shop as well as install my long cord reel.

This weekend will be tree trimming at the house, I am bringing the bucket truck over so I can get the willow trees thinned out before winter. I am also borrowing my brother's dump trailer to haul all the limbs away.

Next week is a busy one as well, I all ready have four days planned with work and Monday probably won't be that productive either. I guess the shop will be getting a rest for the next week or so.

I figure I would slow my post count and let some of the slackers catch up a bit. (by editing this one I did not up my post count!)

He may be too busy playing with his new blue hammer set, and by set I mean every single hammer that TrustyCook offers LOL.

Most of the blue hammers arrived, looks like I am missing three, so hopefully they will arrive on Monday. I took a group picture, but when I found out I was missing a box, I decided against posting it. Once they all come in, I will take a new picture and post it.

I was really busy the last few days for sure. Today will be a bit less, but I still have a ton to do, unfortunately it is work at the house.

One great thing, I did get to use the pressure washer, so I know it works. I cleaned up the bucket truck and the excavator. I need to fix an oil leak on the engine of the bucket truck and reseal at least one of the main boom rams on the excavator. I may be burning the midnight oil next week. I all ready have 7 days worth of work that needs to be done by Friday and that doesn't include today's work.

I spent most of today working on a lease, just need to get it done. The damn thing has been hanging over my head for more than a month. The rest of my blue hammers arrived, then the Snap On driver showed up with some more goodies. I think I won't need hammers for a while.

I forgot to add some pictures of the excavator. I have to pull apart the ram on the main boom, not sure how that is going to go. I watched a few youtube vids and seems like the consensus is big pipe wrench with an 8 to 10 foot cheater on it.

That new tool smell is great, well except for new HF tools, they can smell nasty.

Yesterday was the day my electric bill was delivered. I have been a bit nervous since I installed a larger AC in the office, the two ceiling fans in the shop, and the 28K BTU AC in the main shop, well it went up................

$26.00

That made my entire day. Wish I had done this years ago. It is getting to the point where they may run as a dehumidifier, but not sure they will be needed too much more. I am headed out the door this morning wearing a sweatshirt!

I also bought more hammers last night, Zoro had another 30% off sale, so I bought 4oz to 48oz wood handled nupla ball pein hammers. That should about do it for hammers. Also picked up a 60" ridgid pipe wrench to go with my little 48". I have to swing by the shop today to get some tools for a job I am working on with my brother, but that is about it. Hopefully I will know when I can pick up my Lista storage wall, they said it was ready last Friday, but I have not heard back on an actual pickup date. I would like to get it next Tuesday, but we will see.

Yup.

Red makes me a bit agitated. I had a bright red car once, for about two months, had to sell it. I kept looking at the hood while I was driving. I can't wear white sneakers either, I will walk into things, my eyes keep looking at them.
