Drives, no new cabinets, this is a storage rack to hold my old drawers. I am painting the old ones, eventually. The new unit has pull out shelves and I will not be painting those, at least I don't intend too at this point. Once it goes together, you will get the idea.

Trusty cook finally released the hammers in green, so now I have to place an order of those. I can probably sell my snap on hammers and cover the new ones.

Strouty: I remember looking at your drawings and didn't look close enough to the bits and pieces of all your Lista stuff. got it and sorry for assuming you were painting brand new cabinets.

No need to be sorry. The drawing was a basic idea and there were some financial liberties taken when it was made. I wish I could justify all new drawers to go with it. The nice part is I can add them as needed. This way I won't get stuck with a bunch of the wrong sized drawers. Think of it as a long term project.

Going to start working on moving things out of the way so I can get to assembling the storage wall. Hope to have the majority done this weekend, then I can fine tune things as I start organizing. Once I have lived with it for a while, I will paint the drawers, but right now I just want it to work, regardless of the mismatched colors.

My laptop crashed the other day and now it seems to be dead, so I have an appointment to let one of the "geniuses" at the apple store try and figure it out. At least I have apple care, so it will get fixed, just not sure how long it will take, I have never had a mac go bad on me. I feel like I have been neglecting GJ, but I hate posting on my phone and I have been too busy to do much posting at the shop. Hope everyone has a great day, I am going to take some pictures of things before I get too carried away.

A question for everyone, If I was to tell you that something will work with both the new and the old style parts, what does that mean? Would you think that there are only two styles of those parts?

I am sorry to say that I am in no mood to post any updates, today has turned into one of the worst days I have had in a long time. My laptop is still on the fritz, hopefully I will have some answers about that tomorrow. Anyways I hope everyone had a better day than I did, when I have more answers I will update, until then I apologize for making you guys wait.

I don't think there will be any figuring it out (based on what I have seen so far), I am waiting for someone to get back to me, I am just seriously upset that I purchased something that I was told would work, now the story is different. My shop is completely torn apart and I have no easy way to put it back together now. I am going to do what I can, but I won't do a full update until I either have a resolution or I know I have a serious dispute. Right now I am going to give them some time to figure out what we can do, otherwise I may be returning the entire unit. My update will revolve around how this situation is handled, so far I am handling things fairly well considering the position I am in right now.

I just hope I don't have more bad news when I go to the Apple Store with my laptop. I don't know how much I can handle in one weekend.

I will be going to the shop later today and I hope to build the framework for the big green vidmar cabinet, then at least I will have some drawers that I can use. I also moved several things out of the shop, but I still have more to do. I have help on Monday and I am going to use it, after that I have to get started on the foundations for the first tower job and then explain to a couple customers why I can't be on site this week. I wish I could find at least one full time employee, but I don't dare take that on going into winter, work could dry up and then I am stuck trying to find things for them to do and pay for them through the winter. I played that game a while back and it put me in a terrible position. So for now I am at the mercy of the help I have and it is fairly limited. Most of the stuff can be done with one other person, some can be done by me alone, but there are a few parts that will need three or more people and I am having trouble finding a third. When I am paying skilled (tower wise) people $50 and hour and non skilled (tower wise) $25 and hour, you would think it would be easy to find help, but apparently that is not enough to entice people. I am paying $15 an hour for help at the shop, at least that seems to be working out.

Apple says that they have to send the laptop away and it will be 3 to 5 days before I get it back. I think I have a solution to my issue from the other day, but I will have to see if I can get the company to agree to it. Sorry about being low key on what is going on, I just want to be fair and make sure any gripe is justified.

I am still working on organizing a bit of the mess from yesterday, should be able to start working on the framework for the big vidmar soon, I just need a bit more space.

I will post the first part of yesterday's endeavors, the ones that were successful anyways.

Then we went through a process of moving things and ended up here.


A bit more shuffling and I was able to get the forklift in so I could pick up the cabinets and move them.







I also removed the lockers again, but this time they are not going back inside my shop ever again.

Also good help is hard to find for less than $20 per hour. Sounds like you have a few good part timers and maybe see if you can swap favors with talented friends on jobs where you need two or three guys for a day or more.

Anyways, I am going to post pictures of the Lista storage wall sans my drawers because they do not fit as I thought they would. Apparently I do not have new or old style drawers, but "antique style" drawers, of course yesterday was the first I ever new they even existed.

You may just be in luck, I have to go to Kentucky and my guess is I will be coming through your way. I am not sure when, but probably beginning of November, provided I get all the stuff I need to done.

I am trying to make the best of my mess, I think if I can get about 9 drawers then I can reuse my cabinet with all the short drawers (2"), I will just add a custom pedestal to it so that it sits higher. Even with this concession I still need to spend another $1000 to get to where I thought I would be. It is upsetting, if I had planned on this in advance I would be fine, but getting a surprise like this stinks. Hopefully I can go and pick up some of the drawers ASAP as the shop will continue to be a mess without them. I will post some pictures of the storage wall once I fill it up, some stuff makes sense, others are just fillers for now. I figure it will take a while before I know what I want and how I want it. I can see that I want more pull out shelves, they are great and make getting at things easy. The old problem of putting something in front of something else is a non issue now because I can just pull out the shelf and get the item in the back. I had not originally thought of that, but I can see it as a huge benefit overall.

Strouty, I'm thinking you may have looked into it, but I'll suggest it just in case you havent.

Is there any sort of ready-labor or temp agency near you? I use them frequently, when I have a project that just requires more hands than I have on the payroll. Not always high-quality, but at least it's a pair of hands. Most of the time, I just need laborers with common sense. Keep them on a short leash, with one of my guys who is good at what they do and they seem to be ok for the most part. Our rate for these guys is just under $18 per hour. Best part is, you can get just one for as little as one 8-hour day, if that's all you need.

Just a suggestion.

Wanna Ride, I have used them in the past with mixed results, that was a while ago. I am currently a one man show, I subcontract a lot of things, but I personally do a lot of it as well. Usually my cousin (he does pools) is done and available all the time, but he got two in ground pools to do and they wanted them done this year so he is not available until November. With towers it is nice to have labor that knows the process so everyone stays safe, but it takes a lot of training to get someone up to speed and I don't have time, so I may end up having to farm some work out. I think I have all my help lined up for the first job, but I may have to hire a foundation crew to help on the second one, that will eat a lot of profit, but I can live with it.

Your shop is taking shape. Sorry the Lista wall didn't go as smooth as anticipated. Those pull out shelves are the bomb.

And jobs to do at the same time. Hope they go smooth for you.

Your bouncing from one thing to another reminds me that I can do the same. Be flexible. When one thing isn't going well, I will jump on another, where I can make faster progress.

Sometimes the bouncing gets me into trouble. Being flexible does help, I would prefer to start and finish a project rather than move on. It adds a lot of stress that I don't need right now.

I bounce around a lot too, unfortunately it does not always work for me. I usually end up losing pertinent parts or misplacing fasteners etc but I constantly bounce..

Sometimes you get kicked around. I was going to get the generator setup this year before things get too frosty (this will be the year I don't get caught with my pants down....suuuure....), but a tub leak pulled me away from that this weekend. Just how she goes.

Simpler, I definitely felt kicked around, but today was a better day for sure. I hope I can keep things going smooth this week. Spent a bunch of time putting things on the shelves and moving stuff around. Also got a bunch of stuff moved into the moving van trailer. I am getting closer to be able to move the conex, just need a bit more time, even if I get it moved in line with the other boxes for this winter, it will make me feel a lot better. If the weather cooperates, maybe I can have all the boxes moved to the back property line, that would take some mighty nice weather though.



I bought these black containers and never realized they fit the shelves I all ready owned so well. I had to move the shelves a bit, but it looks like it has potential.


I moved these from in the stock room, seemed like a better fit than the lockers. Missing a drawer and not sure where it is, I think I used to have it?


We actually cleaned this area out on Saturday, but I did not take a picture, I can get at things again. Probably need to do a quick cleaning up there as well.


I made sure I can get to all my shelves, still need to organize and label things, but this it a start.


There is a bunch of stuff jammed into the far side of the shop, I am hoping to get things cleaned up a bit more in the next few days.


A lot of progress was made in the moving van trailer, it now has several shelves and is ready to take more supplies from the conex and beyond.


The conex is starting to get a bit cleaner, there is a lot of stuff in there so it is a bit overwhelming.


All of these shelves were cleaned off, but I had to move a bunch of drawers to try and fix the shelving unit they were on, it was leaning bad from last years attempt at moving the conex.


This is the shelving unit that was racked, I think I am going to bolt it to the wall of the conex, that should keep it secure.

I love my Lista pull out drawers too. Bottom one used to house ammo. Several hundred pounds worth with no issues.

The dummy in the moving van trailer (Yes, I know it's not you),has a harness like one I have. It's a belt with metal loops on each side and a length of rope with special snap shackles on each end. I was going to use it to do the second floor roofing job, but the rope is frayed and broken and the belt looks the worse for wear.

You are making mad progress! Hard to just keep up with it all.

You should be feeling great.

I'll bet you are finding things that you knew you had, but didn't know where they were. I just found my rivet tool!

That missing drawer grates on my OCD. Us hoarders do have OCD. It's part of what keeps us from doing things, especially if they can't be perfect.

This is the rush rush time of year for us northerners, isn't it.
