Slowzuki, I grew up climbing towers the way your Dad remembers. I know what you mean about steel on pallets. Most of the steel I have floating around it on 4x4s so you can pick it up with forks. The problem I have is the yard is not easy to traverse right now. All the stuff I showed was haphazardly laid out in the dark so please don't be too critical. Once the dirt is gone and I get things leveled up there will be some serious storage going on. My guess is that it won't happen until next year because I need to clear some trees, bring in gravel, level the ground, lay out some concrete, and move my storage boxes. Then I will be able to set up some pallet racking and my new cantilevered racks so I can get to any of the materials with ease. I also plan on making more totes out of metal and getting them galvanized, they work great for sure.

Hey Strouty, do you have any use for a 5'x10' sheet of stainless?
Yesterday was a nothing day, the house had an issue with the plumbing and I had to wait for the plumber, turned into an all day event thanks to a mistake in the scheduling.
Today when I went over to the shop one of the piles of dirt was gone and they had started on the second one. I was only there for a few minutes and then came back later this afternoon after I climbed the tower to install the jumper cable that did not get installed the other day. It took me about an hour to climb 430 feet, not exactly great, but at least I did it. I got the jumper cable installed and weatherproofed.
When I came back, they had another pile removed and were working on the last one. Should be done tomorrow and that will be awesome!

A few years back I had called a plumber to come move a gas line, he was supposed to be here bright and early Monday morning, I waited until 10am before calling, when I got no answer (Voicemail) I started the job myself, he finally showed up at 3pm the job was done and I was having a beer.
Then he got all pissy when I said I wasn't going to pay him for his trip.
This was a weird situation, we have an insurance policy that covers things so we have to go through them and sometimes things get screwed up. I can't complain overall, a few years back they did almost $5000 worth of repairs all under the warranty and we only pay $140 a year for the policy.

It is only one acre Bill, the rest of it is someone else's property and today I got a rude reminder. He came over yelling at me that they were digging on his property, we looked at it and it was not, it was very close to the somewhat known property line so I drove some stakes where he would be happy and talked to the guys running the machine. The silly part is the pile of dirt is one I put there last year and the neighbor gave the OK. Now I want to remove it and it is an issue? I can't wait until I put up a fence, it will be a RPITA for me when plowing, but it needs to be done. Looks like I need to talk with him before I take down some trees, I do not want to get on his bad side. Every time I go up to his house his dog ends up attacking me, so I try and stop him when I see him on the road. Last time the dog bit my arm hard enough to break blood vessels, so I don't like dealing with it, I am more afraid I will kick it and piss of the neighbor. Usually he is a good guy, but when he perceives any issue, he attacks me like I am not a reasonable person, usually happens once a year, I guess I was due.

I was going to ask if you own the shop or if you are renting it, but after reading a little more I figure you own it. Every one needs one of them neighbors. I have more than my fair share.
He is great, except when he thinks you are doing something wrong. I am trying to get this all squared away so I don't have anything out where he or his wife can see it. You would think he would be happy, but I can't read him, ever. I am thinking of offering him the wood I cut down from the trees that I have him OK. I just don't want to rock the boat, if the Town comes down on me, it could be a terrible mess. I just don't want to get into that situation until I have the place better organized and cleaned up. Technically they can get me for too many vehicles that are unregistered/inspected but I could get rid of a few very quickly. The lot has been taxed commercial since the 1970s, but no one truly knows what that means because it is not in a commercial zone. I think it is grandfathered, but I know everyone wants it gone and reverted back to a house lot.
As for ownership, I do not own it, but my lease is like a mortgage and is written very well. My lawyer loved it and said I have nothing to fear, the landlord can sell the property, but the lease (registered with the county) follows with it. Purchase price is agreed on and 70% of the rent goes towards the purchase, I can't even get a loan that good. 2020 is the ballon, but it is only $40k and the place is worth $100k as a house lot.
Rent is so reasonable, that I can afford to do things like I own it and I am still under what I would be paying if the rent was where it should be, I know there is some risk, but I feel it is no different than if a bank owned your house and you did improvements on it. Regardless, I am happy with the way it is going and comfortable with the situation and that is truly all that matters.
They are down to the last truck load of material, it is looking good, just wish the neighbor had not gotten up in arms.
As for the office work, well that has not happened, I ended up taking the hydraulic motors apart because they were oozing hydraulic fluid everywhere. I am almost done, then I will clean up and get some lunch. I need to go and register my car, I want to go to the chiropractor for an adjustment as my neck is all locked up. Then I will head back here because I scheduled the dumpster to be picked up tomorrow and I want to toss those misc pieces and parts tonight so I don't have to see them anymore.

I decided to wait to register my car until Monday as it will completely mess up my schedule today. I am going to hit the chiropractor tomorrow, that allows me to make the most of my time at the shop. I am in the process of cleaning up the mess from the hydraulic motors, I need some caps and plugs that fit so I can keep **** out of them. I figure the plastic ones will work for now, but I need to get some actual threaded ones for the long term. Maybe I can get some tomorrow on the way to the shop.

Strouty: first of all since you own an inversion table use it because i've cured many a neck issue on mine instead of going to the chiropractor that i liked. it might take a morning and evening session for a few days to unlock it, but at least the muscles will move with it so you might have a more permanent fix. if that doesn't work then go see your bone cracker.
as far as your lease option i agree that they can be a great way to own property, but since you have a zoning issue you won't get notified if there are any notices unless you have that written in and the real owner sends them to you. since you have a lot of equity you might be able to get a line of credit while the rates are low and maybe get enough to pay to have a good portion of the lot asphalted to save on tires and the mud and gravel mess during winter.

Drives, the inversion table is in full use, I just have a couple muscles in my upper back that are tugging too hard so the neck won't release on its own. I really need to see a massage therapist as well, but I have been so busy.
As for the tar, looks like I can only have a portion of the lot covered and that includes asphalt and concrete. If the owner gets anything he will be all over me, he is a Lawyer and he is a huge landowner (mostly rentals), his secretary is very on top of things.
The earth work was totally free, no strings attached. I am guessing he got somewhere around 180 yards of material and he owns a screen so he will separate out all the loam and either sell it or use it on one of his jobs. It is nice to know people, most would charge to remove it.

I hate to use that dirty four letter word, But it snowed 4 miles west of town today. It is getting closer. Oh on top of that they are predicting a real cold front in, Just in time for turkey day....
Actually I am looking forward to the snow, one of my favorite times of year.
My brother and I are headed to get more steel on Saturday, I think I will be scrapping more of it. I want to try and get everything home in one more trip.

I think the stainless sheet is 12 ga. It's pretty heavy. Maybe 14. Thicker than 16 for sure. I guess I could mic it.
