Firebrand, the compressor itself has some issues, so I have not been able to use it other than for a couple tests. I hope to have that resolved in the next week or so, it depends on what parts I end up needing.

RM, I am definitely finding that starting is the hardest part, a few times once I got rolling I had to actually stop myself so I wouldn't burn out.

dkmc, those are the plyworx pliers racks, I cut one in two pieces to make it fit where I wanted. They are more expensive, but they are thicker than the cheap ones. I think amazon sells them, but that particular one came from the Snap On dealer, I think it was $25 IIRC.

I am about ready to head to the shop, yesterday was a wash and all the things I hoped to do at the house were not done either. I hate it when that happens, got to keep looking forward though. I only have a little bit of paperwork to do, I will have to make some phone calls about parts for the air compressor, but the majority of the time will be cleaning and organizing, I am looking forward to some progress any where I can get it.

Same here. I've been saying that for two years, every time I open the pliers drawer on my big tool box... over 30 pairs of tangled pliers. But who am I kidding? I wouldn't get around to making another little project like that for a while. Seems like I have plenty of everything, except time. Garage is a wreck, I just need to carve out some time to straighten it all up.

You will enjoy the rack, it is just good enough, even for a perfectionist. The biggest issue could be depth of the drawer. I am sure you will figure it out once you get the rack.

I just got to the shop, should be here fairly late too. I am going to try to keep to my "next level" commitment, but Thursday and Friday both screwed my schedule up a lot. Top priority is to get the old radio equipment scrapped and loaded. Second priority is the main area of the stockroom and it is a close second. Third is to get some items ready for sale on eBay and possibly craigslist. I think those will need to wait until next weekend, because I am going to be out of town Wednesday through Friday on a job.

Almost done with the radio equipment tear down. Not nearly as much good material in these as there was in the last batch I did. I actually decided to scrap parts as is, rather than breaking it down to individual components. I just can't see it ever giving me a return on the labor.









I have to unload a few things from Bev, then I will start loading all the stuff. I still have to sort a lot of wire, so today is most likely going to be just the scrap. No big deal, I am happy to get the space back. I then need to decide what else is going and get it ready, I will take Bev home on Sunday night and drop all the scrap off on Monday morning.

I am also working on a couple goals, I have been using my time in the shop to listen to some audio books and one of them is about goals. I am excited to try out a different process than I have before. I figure there will be three primary goals, one personal, one business related, and one for family. The hardest part for the business goal is that I am the only one on the "team", so it may be tough at times. The biggest thing will be to make them clear and figure out the dedicated timelines.

Bev is almost all loaded, ready for Monday's trip to the scrap yard. I am working on some final copper parts and then I have to strap down some stuff on the back of the truck. Tomorrow should be dedicated to the stock room! I really can't wait. I have some great ideas and I also have the get rid of it mind set, so there should be a lot of stuff that can go away completely. I am going to be brutal with any misc hardware, just so tired of sorting things. If I need more hardware, I will buy it and sort it as it is purchased.

Thanks CB, I agree that the space is worth more than anything. I also like it when I can sell something and buy something from the proceeds, makes me feel like I traded, rather than spending any money.


After I go Bev loaded, I started looking at all the things I have on the stack racks and I think I need to get my act together, there are tons of things on them that I am not currently using and probably won't be using anytime soon. There are also a few things that I would like to use and I may even get enough motivation to use them, thinking about a bench made out of the 80/20 material.








At least the shop doesn't have all that useless radio equipment in the middle of it anymore.

Today I was going to concentrate on the stock room area, but since the rain is supposed to come in this afternoon I have decided that first priority is to move a couple shelving units out to the conex. I have finally found a good place to use them and I would rather have them there anyways. It will free up some space for other things and it will help organize some more of my tower hardware. I figure I will get this done before the rain, then I can work on the stock room for the afternoon. Yesterday was a long day, but I am glad to have all that scrap gone, I actually found a few more things to put in there just before I left for the night.

It is funny how easy things are to plan, yet when it comes to the logistics of it, well not sure if I can do what I wanted to do today. I forgot about a few things and they may make my plan undoable. I am going to give it a shot regardless, still have a few hours before it is suppose to rain.

I got a few things moved, but the rest of the place looks like a tornado hit. I have to go out to the conex now and move some things around to make room for the shelves. I can also see that I will have to build or buy a few more cabinets to do some of the things I need to do. Looks like I will be able to sell several of my existing cabinets, so it should just about pay for the new ones. Looking towards the future and the vision in my head is starting to match what I am seeing, I like that feeling.

I got the conex cleaned up enough to get the two racks in, had to move way more stuff than I wanted to, but it was worth it. I have not labeled or organized anything in there yet, but I will be doing that in the next few weeks. Pines would be proud of me, I will be using my labeler on almost everything out there! I grabbed a quick pic of the before so you have an idea of what changed. I had to take down a section of the larger black rack, speaking of that rack, I am going to be completely reworking all of it at some point this year (probably fall).

I had a couple more things that I was playing "scrap or not" with. I decided to look them up on eBay and found that I have only one item that is actually scrap. The other items were selling on eBay for between $25 and $250, I love it when scrap turns into dollars. Looks like I will have to make a mess again so that I can get the stockroom cleaned up. I think it makes sense to take up the room while sorting, the plan is to sort and trash a lot of stuff.

I moved some stuff around and think using the drawers in this cabinet will work well. I am still trying to figure out where things live, sometimes I have to move stuff more than once, but I figure I won't know until I try.




This cabinet is mostly welding supplies, but all the plastic bins are double stacked, so you can't get to anything in the back. I have plans to make a cabinet dedicated to welding supplies, for now I may end up with an area in the stock room for overflow. I figure no sense and clogging the cabinet up, it just makes it harder to use.

I am running out of steam, so I think I will head home soon. Started sorting a few bins, nothing major. I did mount my lightbulb bin, I think I bought it about a year ago so I guess it was about time. I removed the catch all bins from the wall near the rotabin and that is now where the light bulbs are. I cleaned an entire drawer out of the lista so it was definitely worth it. My organizing strategy is going to be as follows: any hardware that is galvanized or stainless will go out in the conex in the racks I set up, anything antenna related (except some delicate or moisture sensitive things) will also go out there. I will probably keep a small amount of 3/8", 5/16", and 1/4" stainless hardware, but no where near the quantity that I currently store inside.

I have thrown away several things that I could not identify, tomorrow I will be starting an auction pile, then that stuff will go out back in deep storage. I have also taken some measurements and it looks like I can move the mohawk lift out back as well, no sense in tripping over it until I am ready for it. I may have to get some help over here to move a few things, my elbow is getting better, but I know I abused it today, I am going home to ice it.

The scrap load was a success for a change, $370, much better than the $45 from the other day.

I also got the brush from the house taken care of, that cost $7, but I figure since my GF raked it all up, that was the least I could do.

Trying to plan the rest of the week, waiting to hear back about a job that will take a couple of days out of town. If it doesn't happen, it will almost make things better for me. Anyways, very dreary sunless day and I don't have a lot of motivation. Going to grab some lunch after I unload all the buckets from Bev.

I have to admit that I went out for lunch, but ended up at home depot. I bought some new LED lights for my office, hopefully I won't have to replace them every couple months. I think I have been through six of the incandescent so far this year, they are also a "daylight" type and I like that style. I actually went there to find shelving for the office, where the copier used to be, everything was 36" wide and I only have 32.5", so I was going to buy that cheap white stuff that you cut down and use all the clips to hold it to the wall. Then I see a corner unit, it is 30" by 30" with a 45 degree cut off one corner. I think it will work, so I grab it, then I get excited and decided to look at the plants. My office needs some green, but I don't want some high maintenance overgrown shrub, I decided to get some succulents. Now I need to find a nice pot for them, going to have to look for something rectangular so it will fit nice with my rough drywall trim and 2 by 4 design of the window.
