A while back, the faucet in the kitchen sink failed to put out any hot water.
What was funny was that if you moved the handle to the mid point you would get a half second of pretty hot water and then cold or lukewarm when moving the handle back to hot.
Hmmm...I got the faucet mfg to send a new ceramic cartridge out. No dice. Then they sent a new faucet. Still no dice.
Additionally, the outdoor faucet was kind of lukewarm...hmmmm.
This really had me scratching my head. Then I did some Google searching and up comes a thread about "crossover". It usually happens when another faucet fails. So I suspected the main bath but nothing changed when I shut off the angle stops...other than one of them failed as they always do.
Then I was talking through this with my wife and she said "the faucet quit delivering hot water when you roughed in the master bath". Kudos to her!
Duhhh...the rough in cap on the Delta valve allows crossover...hot or cold moves to what ever side has lower pressure as when you open the kitchen full on hot. The cap just plugs off the end of the valve body until you insert the valve itself.
The master bath and kitchen are on one end of the house so the effect was isolated to that part of the house.
Trimmed out the bath and all is well. Kind of a PSA...I don't want anyone else to puzzle over this. It was new to me. I bet plumbers see this often in remodel work.
Cheers!
